Anyone Use Liqui Moly 5w-40w For Petrol vRS?

Featured Replies

Hey Folks B)

Been doing some research on oil & even reading back on a few old threads etc & I've seen a lot of the VW boys n gals (GTI/Golf R) mapped or not seem to of moved over from the bog standard VW oil 5w-30w oil to this Liqui Moly 5w-40w oil.

So was wondering if there is any petrol vRS owners that now use 5w-40w compared to the 5w-30w & if so! how do you find the differences between them? Any better oil consumption? Main thing is the oil meets/exceeds the VW spec, also watched a few youtube vids of Deutsche Auto Parts who seems to use this oil.

I think definitely this time round when my service is due, I'll be switching oil especially if it helps my engine last longer! & run smoother.

My 19 plate 245 has a GPF fitted so the oil spec, I think is different to the non GPF Tsi Vrs's.  The Oil spec for my car is 508.00 /  0w-20 so I wouldn't be able to use it.

Having a read of the link does seem it could be a good choice of Oil for some.

I did not know the spec changed, when or what year vRS did that change over.

From what I understand from the dealer is that only applies to Tsi Vrs's fitted with the GPF ( Gasoline Particle Filter ) run on 508.00 spec oil. Mines a 19 plate, TSi 245 Petrol registered 01 March 2019.

The change to VW 508 / 509 so 0w 20 FS IV will not kill the GPF.    If it is going to Skoda Dealerships Workshops better get their Shi-t together.

And the manual says not to use additives.

I have a 63 plate petrol vRS so I presume 508 00 don't apply to me?

Didn't think the Liqui Moly has additives, Considering it meets the vw 502/505 spec?

Engine Oil is not an additive it is the Life Blood of your engine and a consumable...

From what my dealer said to me, as long as it meets the oil spec (VW 507 00 in my case) it doesn't matter which brand you use.

I was able to get Castrol Edge LL 5w-30 cheap from a friend and they threw that in for me when I had an oil service. Shell Helix is what they'd normally use in the garages.

^^^ But you have a TDI.

They only used 0w 20 FS IV for the past 18 months or so for WLTP / RDE to get the WLTP / RDE figures and in the cars in case retested in any country like the UK as Imported.

(Previously diesel in the engine oil at EU Test Facilities would do that job, but VW never cheated ever, well apart from when they did.)

Apologies.😥 Being rather old anything 'Moly' implies some murky snake oil magic additive to add to engine oil.😢

It can still be Additives, for Fuel or in Oil.

Actually quite good in some applications / uses IMO.

I wondered why my engine 'rattled' :D
