Additional USB port

Featured Replies

My 2016 SE has a Bolero head unit with one USB port near the gearshift which I use for Android Auto.

I am thinking of adding a Dension USB DAB adapter which, as the name suggests, requires its own USB port.

I suppose I could use a USB splitter, but if possible I would prefer to keep the cabling as discreet as possible.

Does anyone know if the Bolero has any additional USB outputs ?

Or can DAB be added as an OEM upgrade?

A USB splitter won't work as far as I'm aware. It's something I looked at a while ago and cant remember why, but it'll provide power but not data transfer. If you want more USB sockets then VW sell a USB splitter which does just this, but it's not cheap. Part number 5G0035953C for a double splitter and 5G0035953D for a triple splitter. Then you'll need new physical USB ports and cables, and then there'll be some fiddling to make it work somehow (not sure cos I aint done it).

To upgrade to a DAB unit won't be cheap either. You'll need a new (or second hand) DAB Bolero with Component Protection removal, a new antenna to provide DAB reception (and cables) and that won't come cheap.

Thanks for such a comprehensive reply. They don't make it easy!

It looks like swapping the unit would be the best option. Have you anything that would do the job?

No, sorry. I don't have much to do with the MIB based units.

I have a DAB Columbus available, yes. But they don't come with Bluetooth y'know.

That eBay link is a Fabia screen and isn't any use at all. It's just the screen with no workings behind and isn't Yeti compatible.

Thanks for all your words of wisdom.

I think I'll abandon the quest and maybe just get a DAB adaptor.

Very sensible!
