1.6TDI engine sensors

Featured Replies

Can anyone help me clear up some confusion please:

I have a  2011 1.6TDI CAYC Fabia, and it has thrown up error code P0236 on a couple of different occaisions now, and intermittently the engine will run normally, but sometimes I can tell that the turbo isn't working by the lack of power.

I know the code is for the boost pressure sensor, but does a new sensor have to be "coded" to the ECU when it is fitted?, as I can physically swap the sensor myself.

Also, if it does need "coding", then can I do it with my laptop after downloading some software? (like VCDS etc.).

any Help would be appreciated, as I'm in a hurry because we're supposed to be going on holiday in the car next weekend!.

Thanks.

clarification of problem

Should just be plug and play.

If it needs (which I dont think it will) any coding, im in derbyshire, could assist if needs be as I have VCDS.

Not easy to download something that will work.

Thanks guys, that's a relief. I read in an old post about a vacuum pipe to the turbo waste gate actuator; I will take a closer look tonight and order the sensor if I don't find a suspect part. Thanks for the offer Urbanpanzer: If I'm struggling I might limp along to this month's meeting, it's only 5 miles from me.

Whilst checking the vacuum hoses last night I noticed that my vacuum control solenoid valve behind the battery was getting hot straight away:

Is this normal?, or is it a sign that it is sticking and therefore faulty;

Im getting good vacuum at all of the other pipe ends, so could it be getting vacuum at times when it shouldn't, and that's what's triggering my P0236 error maybe?.

OK after going round in a circle and replacing lots of valves and sensors I am now back to having a problem with my Turbo actuator!! :

It is a guaranteed replacement turbo and actuator that I fitted myself and it has been working, but because the car won't rev high enough to engage the turbo whilst the wheels are stationary I can't prove that the actuator is faulty. A mechanic tells me that you can activate the actuator as a test using VagCom so can anyone help me try this please. The mechanic can't fit me in for 2 weeks yet. I live in Alfreton Derbyshire but I can limp the car to surrounding counties. Thanks.
