300 quid. think ill do it myself for that price. dont garages screw people on labour! i used to work for nissan and the prices people would pay for the simplest of things!

I wasn't trying to get the job, just telling you what you would most likely be charged by the average garage.

Indeed - generally closer to 60 quid/hour inc VAT round here, a lot of independant garages are closing due to retirement and/or supermarket competing against their petrol pumps. Shame that & it will make things only harder :(

yep

dont garages screw people on labour!

Yeah, because it doesnt cost anything to pay the staff, open the building, pay for training etc etc.

We charge £48 an hour, in addition to what Lummox says you are paying for what we know as well as what we do, the work is guaranteed and there has to be an element of profit, otherwise the hassle of running a garage wouldn't be worth it. If you don't want to pay for someone else to do it the only other option is to do it yourself. Last time I put a clutch in my car it cost me £20.

Sorry for a slight hijack, but on the theme of clutches my brothers fiesta need a new clutch and by the sounds of it release bearing. Changing it doesn't seem to hard and i have a trolly jack and axel stands, however what is a good way to take the weight of the bell housing when i take it off since it doesn't exactly look lightweight.

Only reason I ask is that the car probably has the same value as the clutch kit so no point paying somebody to do it.

Thanks
