Thinking about a return to skoda

Featured Replies

Hi, after nearly 3 years away I'm seriously thinking about a return to a VRS estate. Have owned two mk2s in the past, both diesel and petrol manual models and loved them both. This time I'd like to try a DSG. Probably be looking at a 14 or 15 plate MK3 diesel , up to 60k for between 11 to 13k. Any known problems with the MK3s?

Nothing serious, take a look here, you'll soon get a feel for any commonly occurring complaints...

The biggest thing to look at with the age and mileage you're looking at will be condition and service history, particularly around the DSG gearbox.

The car's condition will tell you how it's been looked after, the service intervals will give you an idea on mechanical condition...

Fixed interval - 10,000 miles / 12 months, whichever is reached first

Variable interval - Up top 20,000 miles / 24 months, the car decides for itself when it requires fresh oil.

Fixed intervals result in more regular oil changes, the lifeblood of any engine or turbo. Finding a car that's been on fixed will be worth it, but will be hard to find.

At 60,000 miles the DSG gearbox should have had fresh oil too, if this can't be proven or isn't documented, walk away.

Cheers thanks. Have just bought a well worn 500 quid car to use while my current one sells (hopefully) and I can start the search for an Octavia.

If you can run to a 65 plate, it will be Euro 6 and ULEZ compliant, whilst 15 plate will be Euro 5 and not ULEZ compliant.
