Virtual Pedal Sorted, Yes I may have been a tad daft

Featured Replies

OK, I ordered the virtual pedal to open the tail gate on my car as it 'has' to be useful with arms full of shopping right? Err well yes.... when it worked...

When I picked up the car (in my dodgy defence was in a tight space I might add)I  and tried the foot wiggle  under the rear bumper and nothing, the sales guy tried it and all worked well. Anyway after numerous tries over the last few weeks doing impressions of a drunk stork on ice I now know why it would only occasionally work for me as of yesterday with arms full of shopping one with a bag on the verge of overflowing.... And here's the daft but obvious bit (but not to me clearly) I wave  a foot under the rear of the car then the important bit... STEP BACK.. The tailgate opens up a treat. Those clever Skoda people wanted to make sure that you are enough distance away from the car to stop you needing emergency dental work following a smack in the chin by the tailgate. It seems that the car checks how close you are before opening the tailgate and that makes a lot of sense. There may be some words in the manual but If like me you've not yet got to that page... take a step back and the contents of the boot will all be revealed with the wiggle of a foot.

Actually I think you'll fare better if you just forget about the wiggling and use a kicking motion instead. ;)

Indeed you are right.. but as I'm a novice in this virtual world you can kick, wiggle, waggle possibly rumba the thing will not open until you are far enough away for the thing to open. 😊

As I say it's quite obvious really... now... Sometime you just need to take a step back from a problem the door opens and you see the solution.

I've got a Superb but can't imagine it's any different to your Karoq.

Maybe the return part of my 'kick' is what you think is acting as the 'step back' part of your rumba?

As I'm clearly not a follower or a creator of fashion I didn't want to create the new dance move of the 'Karoq Kick'  so  hopefully no one has footage of my trying to use the virtual pedal  before I understood it.

Cheers john999boy for the comment.

Funnily enough I've just had a quick look for some YouTube videos and came across this one (of many) which is as I mentioned:-

But there was one which involved a sideways movement.

Everybody moves away as it opens but I thinks that's just so they don't get hit and isn't anything to do with the opening operation.

Many thanks for this. I didn't know you could close it with the kick as well, I'll give it a try when I need to open it again. Mine definitely will not open until you step back though, no amount of foot movement will do it so I think the rear proximity sensors may have something to do with it or I'm being filmed for one of those hidden camera shows. As usual I could be talking garbage though.

Interestingly the Seat beeps when closing but not opening, Mine beeps when it opens if you open it from inside the car. Using the button above the number plate to open and the button on the underside of the tailgate there are no beeps up or down.... which is nice.

According to the salesman that sold us our Karoq it's easy, just stick your foot under the central bumper area and, hey presto, looked a doddle.......I wasn't convinced so kept the £700 in my wallet.

This is a still from an advert off my Facebook page this a.m........ looks quite simple really, albeit on a Ford, just stick your foot out as though you're doing the hokey cokey!

Full marks to Ford's marketing department, not afraid to show what the device is really for......it's to enable you to open the boot without having to take your hand out of your pocket........!
