Silicon key fob cover

Featured Replies

I bought a key fob cover, but we're not getting on.  It simply won't stay in place and moves around until the sides either side of the key blade exit are flapping around.  Before I give up I just wondered if there's something I'm missing, or a knack to getting it to stay in place?  It's one of these:

As part of my new car pack, I was given a carbon fibre key cover - which I haven't yet fitted. What I did notice was there was some cleaning wipes and adhesive strips to ensure a good fit. Do you get these too?

Slightly different fit, but I initially had problems with my cover not totally covering the key fob, and thus catching on things and coming off.

I remember someone on another thread mentioned placing the cover in a cup of hot water and then stretching it whilst placing over the fob so that it would 'shrink to fit'.

Cannot recall if that is what I did or just repeatedly stretched it, but now it has stayed on for over two years with no issue.

The added bonus of having the cover on is no more worrying about accidentally depressing the key button and giving yourself a home made vasectomy!

No cleaning wipes or sticky stuff, but I suppose double sided tape could be an option.

Might give the hot water idea a go first. I like the shrink to fit idea!

Sometimes it’s better to pay a little more,I had the same issues so paid a couple of £ more after reading some reviews.

@V6TDI - Hi Gaz, is the hole that the blade release button is supposed to go through entirely clear? If not, then the cover may not snug over the plip properly.

Looking at the picture closer now, it appears the silicon case is  bigger than the key fob. Is it the same thickness all the way round or are the sides thicker?

Same thickness all round.  It is bigger, but that's a bit of an optical illusion as once the key is in it, it's a snug enough fit:

But then the bottom left corner bit, here, rides up:

And then it distorts out of shape like this:

And then it gets right up my nose! 🙄

Good thought Ken 👍

It's completely clear and not causing any issue that I can make out.
