Lowering / Comfort Fabia VRS MK1

Featured Replies

So I have finally crossed over to the darkside and got myself a 55 plate  Fabia VRS MK1.

Its totally stock and very well maintained with full Skoda history throughout recent new clutch and brakes ect.

Its got 151,000 on the clock ( nearly run in!) Such a fun car to drive!!

I have one issue tho its got a knock over bumps, I reckon this is a top mount, previous owner recons it could be the dogbone bush!

Anyway a week on in ownership and my 'middle age (48)  boy racer streak' has raised its head!

So my question is what should I do, simply change the top mount and live with it or do what my inner chatterbox is telling me to do, treat it  to some shiny new shocks and springs / top mounts and at the same time drop it a bit to get it stanced.

2nd more complex question is do I go  Eibach or H&R and leave on the old 150,000 mile shocks,  go  Eibach or H&R and buy some new shocks like some Sachs or bilstein,

Or go for one of these vogland or AP springs & shock kits which seem good value, but I am unsure of the quality.

.......I don't want a crashy bouncy teeth chattering ride or too low over the speed bumps and it needs to be smooth on the motorway .

I want slightly more stance up to 40mm drop,...... performance with comfort & style.

What do the VRS boys recommend?

For a knock over bumps I’d say more likely anti roll bar links

Mmmm! that might be worth doin as 1st shout cheers, its had new drop links so  arb links deffo worth a shot.

They are the same thing.

 Your right, I was thinking the actual anti roll bar bushes might be shot! Not sure if this would cause a knock tho!?

My thoughts are its possibly shock mount or shock related.

ARB bushes certainly knock

@mak-71 - Well, I think you need to confirm the cause of the knock, and, if it's drop-links make your mind up about whether or not you're going to slam the car, because you'll need shorter drop-links if you do.

So if I was to fit some eibach

Pro springs & keep the current shocks and only lower it by 25mm will I still need to lower the drop links?

I assume fitting shorter drop links is to reduce the bouncing and pogo rebound effect?

No need at all.

Is anyone riding Eibachs on standard shocks?

...... If  so how does the car feel / perform incomparecent. to the Stock Vrs springs.

I had that exact setup on a previous Fabia, it was a slightly firmer ride but handling was much improved.

I pondered for years about lowering as did not want a harsh ride, I finally decided last year on Bilstein B4 and Eibach springs (-25mm)

I would say the ride in most circumstances is better than the standard VRS suspension along with the bonus of slightly better handling due to the lowering and firmer springs.

It still has an arch gap but much better than standard, I am not convinced you could go much lower without affecting the ride quality.

Think I paid £125 for the shocks and £180 for the springs so pretty good value for money.

Cheers for that Duck, ultimately a nice new set of shocks and decent lowering springs ishould help revive the suspension, and if it’s only dropped by -25mm  hopefully the missus won’t suspect what I am up to!

Nope. The length of the drop ling has nothing to do with the effect of the ARB. It's purely because the ARB loops over the top of the driveshaft. So it you lower past a certain point the ARB clashes with the shaft.
