Symphony Radio - no sound at all

Featured Replies

Hi all, been gradually fixing lots of minor (but irritating) problems on my newly acquired 2006 TDi Combi, but now have an issue with the radio/CD. There is no sound coming out at all. The HU itself switches on, all the buttons work, but silence. I connected one of the speaker out wires directly to a spare speaker, and it worked, so I'm fairly happy the HU is OK (also tried an aftermarket stereo, and still no sound). Is there an amp in these, or some sort of module that controls the speakers, as I can't imagine all speakers would fail at the same time?

Many thanks

I don't think there's any module.

If it's any help, these are the wire colours for the front door speakers...

BROWN CONNECTOR

8n/pin3 = Red cable no stripe = Front drivers door bass speaker pin3 (+) (Red cable no stripe from this to tweeter in rear door)

8n/pin4 = Brown cable with Red stripe = Front drivers door bass speaker pin1 (-) (Brown cable with Red stripe from this to tweeter in rear door)

8n/pin5 = Blue cable no stripe = Front passenger door bass speaker pin3 (+) (Blue cable no stripe from this to tweeter in door)

8n/pin6 = Brown cable with Blue stripe = Front passenger door bass speaker pin1 (-) (Brown cable with Blue stripe from this to tweeter in door)

When a speaker goes the amp shuts down to prevent damage to the output transistors, find out which speaker has failed and replace it.

If you measure all the speaker coils with a multimeter one will be open or short circuit.

Brilliant, thanks. One of the rear parcel shelf speakers had been crackling prior to losing all sound, so I just disconnected it, and hey presto, the others all started working again.

Thanks so much, it's been driving me mad!
