Help with Coding

Featured Replies

Wondered if there was anyone who had some handy tips, or who lives relatively near to the Essex/Suffolk area who might be able to help with a couple of features I wanted to enable via coding:

I have a MY19 Karoq SE L 1.5 TSI Manual with:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Traffic Sign Recognition

I would like to code in the following:

  • Lane Assist
  • Traffic Jam Assist (unsure if this is Automatic gearboxes only?)
  • Smart Light Assist (High Beam Assist)/Active Beam Assist ( if this is all the same thing?)

Thanks!

This works only with DSG.

Hi Krbero5,

Were you successful?

I would like conding also these three functionality.

Do you have you some tutorial?

Thanks.

There is a dedicated section for VCDS, you might be better asking over there...

An alternative might be to try and do some of it yourself, Carista is £21 and is improving month by month, and is very much designed to be user-friendly...

SLA is very different to ‘just’ HBA, it uses completely different lights.

Just be VERY careful and weary in using the ‘one click’ coding to change anything, it would not be the 1st or last time that this method screws up other coding on the car at the same time.

ALWAYS use the long coding option.

I didn't think long coding was an option in Carista? It is simply an 'on/off', 'yes / no' app.

I also assumed that adjusting the long coding manually in VCDS, OBDeleven etc. without knowing what you were doing was where a lot of the issues occured?

Ah, proceed with caution then!

No the ones I have been contacted about (amongst other people) they were coded with the one click function, owners then tried to revert the coding (I can only assume they didn’t like the result) and it threw errors up elsewhere and screwed up other coding.

Yes it is also possible to do the same with long coding... if you change things you don’t understand.

As a rule of thumb I have found those come across problems are the ones that want ‘the moon on a stick’ for £10 so they will not give an experienced coder ‘a drink’ for their expertise when they can do it themselves for the same price... despite the fact they do not know what they are doing and are likely not to do the research BEFORE plugging the car in.

So true....

This is the benefit to Carista. The simple checkboxes that allow features to be turned on and off, the user doesn't need to adjust any long coding themselves and therefore worry about doing damage.

If Gizmo is suggesting that checking a box in Carista, and then unchecking it isn't reversing the initial operation or is unknowingly affecting other functions then that is worrying.

VCDS and OBDeleven to me are mainly designed for garages, or professionals who know what they're doing. I have little sympathy for people that buy it and then screw things up because they haven't understood what they're doing. Byte 18 is a prime example.

VCDS costs hundreds of pounds to buy, and is a proper diagnostics tool that is often an investment that a garage owner might make to be able to service and repair VAG vehicles. It isn't reasonable to expect most private vehicle owners that want to make a few changes once, and then never again, to make that sort of investment. This is part of the reason there are so many illegal copies of VCDS out there. Carista helps to address this, a £20 one-off charge is much more palatable for most and reduces the demand for hooky versions of VCDS.

This was why I referenced the VCDS owners map, rather than suggesting the OP buys it themself. Or, to use Carista which makes it impossible to do damage and is specifically designed for non-professionals to use safely.
