Powered tailgate operating intermitently

Featured Replies

I posted a few days ago saying that I thought I had solved the problem by just cleaning  off the accumulated muck on the bodywork. Unfortunately I was wrong.

My tailgate only occasional opens when using the fob or button inside car.

When open  it won't close using the button on the gate.

it was suggested on the other thread that I did a search for previous threads.

It seems that replacing the struts, if necessary, is very expensive.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

Spelling mistake

Hi there, I had exactly the same problem with mine. It worked intermittently, sometimes all was ok then it would play up again. Luckily I had taken out an autoguard warranty when I purchased the car (it wasn't from a Skoda dealer). Took it to the local VAG independent who diagnosed the tailgate motor control unit, one of the pipes to the rear washer has leaked onto the motor. It cost £400 to diagnose and replace as there's quite a bit of labour involved. That was in Feb 18 and it's been trouble free ever since. This could be your problem, luckily it didn't cost me anything.

Further...

I should add that using the fob or in car button does real ease the lid but only a couple of centimetres

I've also noticed that whilst one of the struts is completely dry, the inner section of the other one is smeared with grease.

Update.....

I've rung the two Skoda dealers in my town.

Both say they will have to put it on the diagnostic machine to see what's the cause.

This will cost about £100, which is fair enough.

Im having problems with mine as well. It wouldnt open if the outside temperature was below zero. I have ripped apart one of the struts ( not sure if i will be able to put it back together ) but havent found anything obvious. Tried putting the moving parts in the freezer but they still moved. I think i will check under the rear washer to see if there is water there. I will try to reasemble the strut and put it back. What could go wrong? 😁
