central door locking problem

Featured Replies

2006 Skoda Octavia 4 x 4 1.9 TDI

The rear wiper motor was malfunctioning and in attempt to isolate the problem we pulled fuses from the fuse board by the driver’s right knee in the dash. In replacing them the positions got mixed resulting in the fuel pump not operating. The fuses were repositioned correctly and the car ran. The preceding may just be a red herring but I mention it just in case.

The problem I now have is with the central locking system. The key fob (which was working well and had no battery problem) fails to lock or unlock any doors. The tailgate is locked and can only be opened using the emergency procedure from inside the car. Neither rear doors will lock even using the driver’s door key. The driver’s door will lock using the key but that doesn’t lock any other door. The front passenger door can only be locked and unlocked using the cabin door lock button in the centre console. All fuses look good.

Does anyone have any (sensible) suggestions ….

You have removed the power from the comfort control module or whatever its called on the MK2.

Do the electric windows work?

Many thanks for your reply. I’m not with the car at the mo but will try the windows later. I’ll also try to find the “comfort controll” fuse and check that

As you cannot lock the rear doors you may like try the emergency locking procedure. Taken from my handbook but without the picture, Fig 13.

› Remove the panel A » Fig. 13. [Panel A is the top cover over an access hole]
› Insert the key into the opening under the panel and press the stopping lever [it is a shaped metal lever with a cut out on the outside edge]
as far as the stop toward the inside.
› Replace the cover.
After closing the door, it can no longer be opened from the outside. The door can be unlocked from the inside by pulling on the door handle again, and then opened from the outside.

the closest I can find in the mk2 Octavia of my year is “control unit for convenience functions”. I’ll check the fuse for that but it’s in the engine bay and I didn’t touch that.

The electric windows work ok....

All doors now manually lockable so at least security is not so much of a worry. All attempts to sort the problem have failed so It looks like a visit to the dealer for re programming .....£££££

Thanks again for the suggestions

Update

£52.00 later and the dealer has sorted it. He tells me a fuse was missing. As I had been pulling fuses that at first seems feasible BUT I had no fuses over when I finished my attempts. I can only think that I pulled a fuse and inserted in a "dead" socket.

Having checked which fuse he fitted and researching it via the handbook supplied new with the car it appears its a fuse for heated seats. The handbook obviously doesn't correspond with my car which is frustrating. I've taken a photo of the fuse layout for future reference

its very easy to remove a fuse or even the wrong fuse and then replace it in a wrong vacant position.

The paper card held on my fusebox door with the fuses and the legends is a mirror image of what it should be, I have to hold it beside the fuses and pretend there is a mirror between them. Is this the case with all RHD cars or just mine that came in from Cyprus?

Yes, I have the paper card and it is "mirrored" like yours. The drawings on it are self explanatory for most but there are slots that refer you to the handbook. The handbook then doesn't agree with the real life fuse box or doesn't explain what that slot controls. A photo works for me ....
