Hi all, quick question .... can I fit a standard wingmirror indicator replacement without puddle light to my mirror that has puddle light .... same connectors?? 

I fitted an entire wing mirror without puddle light in place of a broken wing mirror with puddle light without any problems, however as it was an entire mirror I can't comment on whether the two physical light units are interchangeable size/shape/mounting wise.

@Shacky13 You should be able to, just source the correct one (year) for your car........The connectors should be the same, as the puddle light connector is separate to the Led indicator.......iirc

Yh they are only held In place with 2 little screws and a 2 pin connector, nothing to do with the puddle light

Yes, I bought one by mistake, it was for a Polo and the Octavia, I hadn't realised that it lacked the puddle light.

 

I didn't fit it but it would have fitted.

Thx all ....I found one for £12.98 ....with puddle they were over £30 ....I'm not worried about puddle light and not planning on selling the car on so happy with one without 👍👍

The puddle light ones seem to have fairly jumped in price this year ..... The passenger, left, side one I bought recently was around £32 it wasnt even an original part and didn't even come with the bulb for the puddle light .... The drivers side one I replaced last year was an original part and under £25 

Agreed, its the only part needed so far that the price has shocked me.

 

I'm surprised because like door mirrors they will regularly be broken and there is a strong demand for the aftermarket manufacturers to provide them, maybe they are too unique, only fitted to certain models over a short time period and the generic Polo non puddle light ones are the vast majority.

 

When the price falls I will buy one, the N/S one is full of green algae!

Ok grrrrrrrr non puddle light indicator will not.....NOT! Fit.... the plug in connectors are completely different and have an extra two wire ... it’s like trying to put a square box in a round hole!!! So that was a waste of £17 if you include postage and they want £5 to return it so may as well have just spent £30 on a puddle light one!!!

Three pin connectors on cars with puddle light I have now discovered so you can’t fit one without puddle light as connector in the mirror is completely different 

Nothing worse than wasting money .... I guess you could try selling it on and recouping some of the cost

I have noticed differing connectors (to mine) for different years, hence mentioning getting the correct one (year) for your car..........

 

If my information was incorrect, I apologise, but I thought others have done what you wanted to do, too, to save a little cash.

All you need to do is fit a different connector, solder joints, use butt crimps or even Wago connectors rather than throw it away.

 

OK its partially exposed to the elements but self amalgamating tape would take care of that.

 

Otherwise find an App that will fit it for you

So buy a solder thing....new connector ....crimps......tape etc etc total cost ....be the same as buying the correct part in the first place!! .....lesson learnt ....don't simply ask on here ....take it apart and look for yourself before buying parts instead of listening to people who .....drive skoda's ... not fix em that come up with  sarcastic answers about apps to fit things for you!!!

Did I really make crude comments? Given your reaction to a light hearted joke I am very surprised that you didnt react at the time and I would have apologised then.

 

BTW I probably spend more time these days fixing my Skoda than driving it.
