Hole in rear diffuser and loose towing electrics

Featured Replies

I picked up my used Octavia today and when I used vcds got  an error in can gateway.

66304 databus, additional installations detected.  Looking online others have had it from towbar related issues.

Just found a square cutout in the rear diffuser with towing electrics rattling around inside.

I also have a trailer module called conWys trailer h10 0030. (No faults in this)

A few questions should I have a cover for the hole, should I contact dealer to get fault cleared and sort out what's causing it? Vcds won't clear the fault.

There is no cover for the hole, it will have been cut out. How annoying the bar isn’t there! Wonder if the dealer removed it? Would be handy to have. Without seeing the car and wiring it’s hard to know what’s been done. Check the coding thread to see the towbar coding and check it’s all be done correctly. If it’s an aftermarket bar that’s been installed this could be the reason there are fault codes.

I'll get a picture later Sasha thanks.

Not heard of a tow bar being removed. I have always retained and handed over the original heavy metal bumper (normally hidden under the plastics) come sale, and not removed my towbars.

The elephant in the room is do you have a rear steel bumper under the plastic? Needed for energy absorption in the event of a collision :wondering:.

Just checked, yes there is a big black bar. It's undamaged and feels solid. I can also see what I presume is the trailer module fixed on a bracket.

Interesting that it’s black. Mine was body colour when I removed it fit my towbar. I’d have to get the bumper off and look!

The original 'bumper', sitting in my garage, is a deep pressing and mine has a rough spray of black on one side only. I wouldn't describe it as a 'bar'.

Perhaps you do have the towbar fitted but no tow hitch?

This looks like the roadside barriers on the motorway but in black

I think i remember being told there not aloud to sell cars with towbars, i bought a mk2 vrs about 4yrs back from a main dealer, advert had a towbar but when i collected towbar had been removed and wiring just left and tucked away

Skoda dealers can't sell a non-skoda fitted towbar on a 2nd hand car. If you can find an invoice that original towbar was fitted by a Skoda garage or the OEM code for a factory fitted towbar then, you can demand the hook from the selling dealer.

Depends how far you want to go really.
