Intermittent radio fault

Hi

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Start the car, radio works fine.

Drive some distance, doesn't seem to matter how far.

Turn off ignition.

Do some shopping - or whatever.

Get back in car.

Start car, radio display is on - BUT NO SOUND.

Change source - still NO SOUND, regardless of volume setting.

After a random number of ignition on off cycles, radio resumes normal working.

I took video of this behaviour and went to my dealer.

They had car in (for 5 days) and eventually decided to replace the head unit.

They gave me a Karoq as a courtesy car. Quite impressed.

3 days after Citigo returned - problem returns.

I cant work out what the fault would be, if it was lack of power then there would be no display.

Changing the head unit should have fixed it.

Is there a generic issue with these radios?

I have had all the problems with a rusty aerial mount and now use an external DAB unit via the AUX socket, if I am not listening to music from the SD card in the PiD.

Waiting to hear back from the dealer as to what they intend to do next...

I've not had this problem, but since the head unit has been replaced, that shouldn't be the problem. As you say, it can't be a power problem, and an aerial fault wouldn't affect the other sources.

Has to be something external - maybe the PID. Try removing it from the bracket for a few days. Do you have steering wheel audio controls?

I can't remember the exact details now, but if your Citigo is a 'Mk1' with a PID, check that the navigation voice isn't muted. There's a thread on this forum somewhere about it - if you mute the voice during navigation and don't turn it back on again before journey's end, you can't get it back on the next journey unless you set a new route and turn the voice back on. I think it also affects other sound output, but can't be sure - it was a few years ago now!

Yup - thought of that, but I still get the problem when using the AUX in, which doesn't use the PID.

However, having said that its always a possibility that the PiD is somehow muting the radio.

Mind you I have tried powering down the Pid whilst the ignition is on and that seems to make no difference either.

It's all a bit odd really!
