Replacement of sun protection glass

Featured Replies

Well some charming arse has smashed the rear three quarter glass on my week old vrs. The insurance company say all glass replacement must go through Autoglass and I'm a bit worried about it because all the new 245s come with darkened rear glass. Can I assume that Autoglass will be able to offer an exact colour / shade match with the oem darkened glass even though they don't fit glass from the manufacturer, or should I be trying to get glass ordered via Skoda themselves? Has anybody had the tinted / darkened glass replaced and was the colour matching spot on or should I expect problems? Cheers.

I know with windscreens, for cars under 3 years old, glass is normally genuine OEM....I would assume\insist the same for the side

Mine wasnt,  my cupra 290st was 2mths old and they refused genuine screen, think it was a pilkington i ended up with

And yet my Bocanegra had a genuine screen under warranty. Why was yours replaced?

Thanks people. I have applied for a replacement via Autoglass but using OE glass. They send the request to the insurance company for authorisation. The glass would cost £125 direct from Skoda so it's not an astronomical cost for the parts.

Tried to get mine under warranty as small crack started under scuttle tray, SEAT played hardball so i had to go insurance as i was driving down to Cornwall 3 days later,  insurance company refused genuine screen

Same as mine. I was set to go through my insurance. When the chap came out he said the glass was mounted to high and he couldn't get it out without damaging the paint work. I sent photos off to SEAT and they paid for the screen as it was incorrectly fitted at factory.

Whenever I've had a windscreen replaced, they've asked me the colour. No idea, is my reply, I can only tell it is tinted. Green or grey is the choice apparently. Fortunately they turned up with both. Not colour blind either.

Best I can do is say that, on a car that age, an insurance repair must return to "as new" condition.

Thanks all. Luckily, the insurer (Aviva, in this case) has already responded to Autoglass and authorised the use of OE glass so  a positive result so far. Now just hoping the wait for it to arrive isn't too long.

Insurance companies always find a cop out. My insurance company classes my panoramic roof under general damage so subject to a large excess. Luckily it has stayed in one piece over the past 5 years.

I had my windscreen replaced by Autoglass last August, and it never occurred to me that they might fit a non-Skoda part. The new screen is perfectly fine, and I have never heard of anyone having a problem with the shades of glass that Autoglass supply. However I am pleased to see that the Insurers have responded positively in this case.
