DSG oil change when swapping car?

Featured Replies

Hello. I have just ordered a new car and will be handing my car back to VW when the new car is ready, probably 6 months or hopefully sooner. Anyhoo I will be coming up to 40,000 miles next month and the DSG service will be due. Should I bother spending nearly £200 on this or would I get away with leaving it? Thanks

I guess there are two questions here, one contractual and one more "moral". From a contractual perspective, what does the paperwork say? It might say that they will buy it from you for a pre-agreed price as long as you have complied with all required servicing activities or somesuch. In which case it will need to be done. If the paperwork doesn't say anything then you might get away with it. For £200 is it worth the risk?

From a moral perspective I would personally get it done because I wouldn't want to think there is a new owner driving it with potential gearbox issues that I might have caused. But that's just me:).

If it goes back into the dealer network (which a lot of VWFS cars do) it will be up to the dealer to do it prior to sale anyway as part of the approved used car process

I bought my Yeti and the customer had returned the car before doing the third service which was due. Not a bother for me and at least I knew it was done right.
