Right,am gonna try and install a basslink into my Mk1 octy at the weekend. Does anyone have any hints/tips/pointers etc so I don't end up making several trips to halfords and cursing the moment I saw it on that auction site??:confused: Cheers

I just fitted the Basslink to my Furby yesterday. Still need to fine tune it, sounds very boomy... but plenty power and excellent quality!

Hints:

- get cables that are long enough

- get some different size washers (prob have them in the house) to ensure neat connection

- think about how to hold on the fuse of the power cable (about 10 inches off the battery) ) - velcro could do the trick

- there should be grommets in the engine bay to lead the power wire through the firewall (well, there are in the Furby anyway)

- if you have the optional remote volume control box - you prob do not need it as most modern HU's have a Subwoofer volume control (means one less cable to run)

- ensure you have small enough connectors for the Basslink (power and ground). I found with the cable set I bought, I had to cut off part of the side of the copper rings in order that they fit the Basslink (so measure them!)

- buy some strong tape to hold cables in place

- the setup guide of the Basslink does not help that much, play around with it with different types of music

- Enjoy

If they're slightly too big, try taking the screw all the way off the connector block, then sliding the connector in (there's a bit of give in the plastic "walls")

-wasn't gonna bother with the remote even though I don't have a sub out. Surely I'll be ok just fiddling with the EQ on the HU?

-Did you run the power down one side of the car and the RCA's down another? (Is it worth the hassle??)

-Is it worth wiring up both the RCA's and the speaker level connections to do the non-fading malarky?

Hi,

- 5 metres should be enough

- Washers only in case you cannot get a clean connection with the battery (+) and the earth (-)

- self-adhesive velcro is easy to hold the fuse 'box' in place under the bonnet (means you do not need to use screws and make holes)

- I would advise to add the remote control (easiest wire to get in place! so only a 5 min job) as I find the bass changes quite a bit depending on the music

- Defo fiddle with the EQ though...

- Yes, keep the power supply and RCA cables seperate; the power cable can interfere with the electric current of the RCA signal (a few inches is fine though)

- Nope on the RCA AND speaker level: in 2 shops they advised just to use the RCA (and a LOT easier)

- Remember the 'remote on' cable from your HU (if it does not have that, you NEED to go the speaker level route)

- Sorry, no idea on the grommet - maybe you can find a Haynes Manual in Halfrauds (sorry, can't resist) to show where the grommet would be

- Setting up the Bass Link: I use high gain but low 'extra bass' (lowest control on the side of the Bass Link). The cross-over depends on your car, but I've set mine quite low (just below a third)

- Listen carefully for the phase (180

:eek: ok have put in audio stuff down RHS of car today and thinking there's no way I'm gonna get some 8AWG and remote control and remote turn on down the LHS. Can I put some stuff down the middle? HELP!!!:eek: :eek:

Yes, I seem to recall that Quinten put cables down the centre of his MkI vRS.

P.S., is there no way to get the remote control down the signal (rather than power) side of the car?
