Cambelt replacement?

Featured Replies

We've got a 2014 rapid spaceback 1.6tdi with 39k on clock. Had a call from Skoda garage where we got the car from. It's on PCP  so we've got another 18mth before we either buy it or give it back, but they're saying the cambelt needs replacing, is that right with only doing 39k?

VW cambelt lives seem to be a dark secret, but I believe my old 1.4 R4 16V petrol has a 5 year life if the mileage hasn't been reached.

So should I have it done and if so do I have to have it done at the Skoda garage? My uncle is a machinic at a garage and he could do it and keep the service record upto date and it'll be about £200 cheaper than Skoda garage doing it.

VW website doesn't mention mileage but does say 5 years for post SEP 2009 cars. I personally would go to a local mechanic who I trust, and save money.
