Who opened all my windows?!!!!

Featured Replies

I had this happen with my Octavia '16 at the weekend while staying over at the in-laws.  It was pouring down Friday night and came out Saturday to find all my windows open.  My keys had gone straight on their key hooks when I got in and tried holding the un/lock buttons in the morning but they did nothing to the windows (am assuming the previous owner disabled that feature).  So am now worried it's a moisture ingress problem but hate the idea of taking it to a dealer to look at ££££

@AnddentonSee my post 9th from the top.

I haven't performed a DIY vasectomy since.

Interesting idea, but I'm not sure how the case prevents the buttons being pressed accidentally?

Yeah, me neither!

I've just realised I've given you a solution to a problem you didn't have!

The silicon case is only really a solution if you were activating the ignition key release whilst in your pocket  which I would do quite regularly.

Having said that, during the first few years of ownership I have had several occasions where all the windows were either fully or partially down.

Even though I bought the silicon case to prevent me accidentally releasing the ignition key, none of the windows have been left open since fitting it.

So maybe it does work!

It's the second thing I turn off on my cars, after single door opening.

Do you need vcds to turn off 2step unlock??? Its seriously gettin on my nerves :D

Depends on your spec level. Mine can be done via maxidot

"Exclusive" which means "elegance" with a couple of minor upgrades (it was a mk2 run out build)

Had a chance to go digging in the maxidot... i genuinely hadnt realised theres a lot more in there that set of menus than i knew about!

Anyway, found the option to turn off 2 step up unlock, and the windows is in there too..

I doubt very much that radio interference could do weird things to central locking and alarms on modern cars.

It is the moisture in the door locks or bad microswitches. VW owners know this issue for 15 years. You gotta love modern useless technology...

If it was water in somewhere or poor microswitches then deactivating global closing wouldn’t affect it. I’ve not had one return yet with the same complaint after the feature has been deactivated.

Time will tell.

@RicardoM

It hardly matters if you doubt it, do you know it does not happen.

In the case of my car it was in the first weeks / month of it being new and then never happened again and the car is not 3 years old.

If it was moisture in door locks or bad micro switches they magically made became dry and no longer bad.

Can you remember what section it was under? Cheers. I had look in mine the other day but couldn't find anything relating to it. Mine's an SEL so might have different options though.

Ill double check in the morning :)

@mtichbon

Steering control-

Main menu

Settings

Convenience

Central locking

Door unlocking

Pick "all doors"

Then back yer way out.

Thanks for your help.  My settings ended up being in the head unit, not the maxi dot, but got the settings changed so hopefully no more open windows in the morning.
