Trouble with changing fuel filter

Featured Replies

Hi All!

Few weeks ago I tried changing the fuel filter on my 2005 Octavia and encountered a little problem. According to my Haynes manual and a youtube video I watched it should just be a case of taking the old filter out and popping the new one in. So I unscrewed the top to get access to the filter and went to pull it out and….. it was COMPLETELY stuck in there! No amount of pulling or twisting could get the thing out. I'll attach some photos of what it looked like from the top. To me the bit in the middle of the filter (the blue seals) look like they are not supposed the be there, and should in fact be on the part where the fuel lines attach.

If anyone could shed any light on why it wasn't a simple change then it would be much appreciated!

Cheers.

I think it's fairly normal for the lid to get stuck on, I had to very carefully pry it up with a screwdriver when I changed mine.

The blue "knuckle-duster" seal and the green lid seal by your thumb come with the new filter and are replaced with the filter.

Getting the old filter out is just a matter of pulling it up and out if I remember correctly.

Put a flat head screwdriver under the raised black part of the filter and prise it up ''carefully'' all the way around, then pull out the old filter.
