Hi all,

 

I found the source of my annoying rattle.

It is the windshield that pops up when opening the panoramic roof.

 

The rattle is gone when the PR is lifted or opened.

The rattle is gone when the whindshield is dismounted ( 5 screws and two plastic holders)

 

Does anybody know why this rattles and how to get rid of it?

Sorry didn't want a sunroof after the leaks I had to fix in our Fabia, so not seen what they look like or how they sit in the apature.  Look for witness marks (white rubbing of the plastic) and dab some thick plastic friendly grease on the spot to start with.

well, thats the problem.

 

I do not know where it comes from.

I do not see any marks apart from the obvious where the windshield is pushed down.

 

I added some rubberfoam at various spots but no change.

I greased the hinges but no change.

I drove with the hinge unhooked at the rattling side but no change.

 

So it could come from somewhere but not the hinges...

I had a New 66 plate Octavia 230 with the Pan Roof.  It rattled like mad after about 24 months, The dealer was going to sort it  under warranty and found the frame was loose. The whole Pan Roof needed removing and a new one fitted. 

 

I now have a 245 Octavia with a Pan Roof. Last week it  was in at the dealers for a slight rattle, If you pushed up the bit that opens/tilts whilst driving the rattle stopped.The dealer has fixed it problem. The bit that opens/tilts was removed, re-aligined and the rattle has stopped.  Skoda have released a bulletin out about a new thick grease that is now used to lubricate the runners  etc and while mine was getting sorted the used the new  grease on my roof

 

At the moment all is well

Not yet a TPi for Skoda but it is on the Skoda Hub technical area.

Hm, I used Liqui Moly Lithium grease and a paint brush.

I found this pdf. The sunroof of the superb is identical with the Audi Q5 and has the same rattle.....

I may have found something:

putting a hankerchief in the corner the rattle is gone. I guess the windshield is just 1 mm warped and then bumps onto a plastic something from the sunroof.

Yeah the different technical departments will have different specified products and ways of fixing it.

Done a few Q5’s but they jam causing the non closure of the roof rather than rattle complaints in my experience.
