MY model variations - differences?

Featured Replies

Looking for a vRS - sometimes I see (2017) .... I'm assuming it's a 2017 model - whats different?

They all seem to be 245 and not 230 as I may have expected?

Thanks

From May 2017 the facelift Vrs Mk3 was launched either as a 230 or limited edition 245. The first 245's were only on sale for 6 months until Nov 2017 but they were still being delivered as late as June 2018.;)

Thanks for that - what were the facelift changes as I am struggling to see what the changes are?

Front had 4 LED headlights whereas 2013-2016 models had single piece Xenon's (not quite as bright). Infotainment screen grew to 8" old model was 6.5". Ambient lighting on all 4 doors on 245. VAQ diff helped put the power down. Front/rear parking sensors on the 245 as well as electric/heated front seats and folding electric mirrors. 19" alloys on 245 and 18" on 230, black exhaust tips on 245. Speedo reads to 180mph on 245 and 170mph (I think) on 230. VRS logos on all seat headrests on 245. Black shiny front grill on 245. New the 230 was just over £25,000 and the 245 was £27,595 before options and discounts.;)

Led head (fugly split ones) and tail lights

Wider rear track

Alcantara seats with no leather option

Different bumpers

Cheers, it's odd some adverts which say (2017) show the car with 4 headlights?

The folding mirrors are not on the new cars - which I find mad .... normal cars 10 years ago had them as standard!

It seems to me that the options/standard spec changes regularly and the Dealers simply don't always know what they've got.

Was the 245 with black exhaust tips known as the Edition?

I'm getting lost with all the options - Japanese cars just come with one - everything!

Is the Challenge worth trying to get?

The model year usually runs from the May before the year changes, so MY16 for example started build week 22 2015. So the FL cars are actually MY18 and 19 to date and the Mk4 will be MY20 apparently coming before the end of the year but not in vRS trim. What options do you want to have? Would be easier to search for a car with a shopping list rather than worrying about what was standard when. Everyone picks up the folding mirror thing but that’s an option on most cars of this price point and always has been, struggling to think of another euro brand that has that in the standard spec on sport models, it’s standard on the SE-L and the MY18 245. For the money, the original 245 was a great car and got loads of standard kit. If you are shopping new they are all 245 if you are going petrol and the diesel is DSG only. The Challenge is only worth it if the options it comes with are valuable to you, I am still sore over the lack of full leather on the FL but the Alcantara seats are nicer than the cloth but the difference is not as pronounced as on the PFL where the standard seats are made from neoprene like a wetsuit and the upgrade is full leather. The 245 gets the VAQ diff unlike the FL 230 which gets XDS like the 220 and TDI so if you want that you’ll need to look for certain cars and the 245 also has 310mm vented rear discs but they are retrofittable.

Although, to throw another spanner in the works, the pre facelift 230 also had most of those options without the split headlights, bit with the full leather.  I opted for one of them myself,  Jan 2017 registered, as it seemed to be the best of both worlds.

I would say that the LED headlights are fantastic - the best lights that I've had on any car to date, the split headlight look isn't for everyone though.

The Canton sound upgrade is worth while (unless you plan to fit an aftermarket setup) and personally I'd be looking for a DCC equipped car as well, but I carry Grand-kids and elderly parents in mine so being able to run Sport when on my own and Comfort or Normal when they are in the car is important to me.

I would suggest that you try DSG and Manual to see which you'd prefer.

Other options that I have on mine (ex Demo model) include the heated front screen, which is very effective in the winter.

Really wish I had steaming hot leather seats when the temperature hits :emoticon-0157-sun:30C later today. Have to settle for the cool Alcantara instead. Such sacrifices we have to make.

I only find it an issue when I'm wearing my chaps, gets a bit sticky.  Other than that it's fine...
