Kodiaq KESSY issue

Featured Replies

Hey!

so I have what I think is a strange issue with my new Kodiaq.

When my wife left her keys inside the car and I went out in my car - I saw the car was unlocked so used my key, pressed the button to lock and the car locked, no problem.

Issue is is an hour later when I was 30 miles away she phoned to say her car was locked with keys inside her handbag... IN the car!

i had to drive all the way home to unlock it. My question is... is this normal, or a fault?

My other car (a Mercedes C Class 2017) has Keyless entry and start, and doesn’t allow the vehicle to lock if there are keys inside.

I’m a bit confused!

thanks for any assistance / confirmation!

I see the problem. My wife is the same, has no comprehension of security, or awareness of her possessions.

Locking the car, setting the house alarm, closing padlocks on the garage etc. are all tasks designed by me to make life more complicated.

One a more practical level, I think using a key to lock the car would override the fact that a key was left in the car. After all, you might actually want to leave a key in the car at some point.

Think I might have to have a play with that at the house just to see what happens with my Kodiaq.

My old citroen grand Picasso had keyless and you definitely couldn't lock the car with the keys in it. However it did sometimes get confused if I was moving around close to the car with the keys in my pocket (for example when washing the car). I think what was happening with it was the keyless range was very short and whilst washing the car I was continually moving in and out of range so what would happen is the old citroen would randomly lock itself or put the alarm off so what I ended up doing was either leave the keys in the car or put them away in the house well out of range.

So definitely one to experiment with to see exactly what you can or can't do with the keyless entry.
