Octavia Towbar as Factory Fit Option

Featured Replies

Anybody done this?

I clicked Trailer Preparation and then Towbar - it removed the Prep which was a useful saving of £180!

That makes me think the £570 for the Towbar includes the electrical prep work too.

Thing is, the prep simply runs the wires from front to boot, no mention is they fit the final section to an electrical plug by the tow ball?

If they did surely they would ask whether 7pin or 13pin?

So, my question - anyone specced this and what did it come with?

To get a towbar and electrics fitted at a Skoda Dealer as an after fit is over £1,000 - due to the work required doing the trailer prep.

Did I not answer all these before?! 😁

13 pin is hardly used at all anymore even in Europe! As you would be ordering a UK spec car it would be 7pin.

Yes when you order the full towbar spec it comes with everything. Electrics ready to plug and play and removable towbar.

Obviously I don't have my wagon yet but this is what dealer has told me and have viewed a couple of estates which have been specified with this option which made it a no brainer for me.

7 pin is a PITA, having to use an adaptor when bike racks come with 13 pin.

As mentioned elsewhere on Briskoda on several threads, many dealers pass aftermarket towbar fitting to a local specialist, whether it's a brand new purchase or a used car. Also the all-in price for a removable one (as in the swan-neck and ball), including fitting, electrics, coding etc etc. has been seen to be around £450-£550 in various parts of the country. I've paid under £500 twice, for a Westfalia.

So if you're being quoted over £1000 then walk away. It's not unknown for dealers to add on a few ££, maybe £50, but 100% markup is just having a laugh.

And yes, crawling underneath to fit the 7/13 pin plug is a pain.
