Skoda Octavia 2006 4x4 ESP sensor issues

Featured Replies

Hello everyone new guy here a mostly quite pleased Octavia owner for the last year don't get to use it much living in London with hideous traffic but have been Scotland twice in it and pleasantly surprised. But now of course the mot is all but up and the ESP light is intermittenly on more on than off and the switch seems to do nothing. Can someone please tell me where the ESP sensor can be found because I am having a nightmare trying to find someone who knows what they are talking about. 400 odd mile round trip to find someone who didn't know, getting a bit fed up now. Please if anyone can help I'd be grateful thanks. Gareth

First up would be a fault code scan to see what the issue is with the ESP system.

Hi yes I did that can't remember the code number but the guy said it was the ESP sensor that was at fault. He said the sensor was under the dash another yesterday said under the driver's seat another has said it's part of the abs pump take your pick lol but it definitely ain't under the driver's seat as I took the seat out yesterday afternoon and it ain't there.

It's probably an abs speed sensor or corroded abs ring. Given there's one on each wheel, it's best to get the car rescanned to narrow it down... 🙂

Need the actual fault code to provide accurate advice or it’s all just guess work.

I’d expect that to flag an ABS light though.

No ABS lights at all only the ESP light which the guy that scanned it said was the ESP sensor that was at fault. Was charged £40 for 10/15 minutes not keen to do that again to be told what I already know.

But at the moment you know nothing. ESP sensor is too generic to know what the issue is. G201 is a pretty good bet which requires an ABS module repair kit.

Why not see if someone local with VCDS will scan it for you?

So assuming it is this fault code assuming it is the ESP sensor are you saying this sensor is in fact a part of the or connected to the ABS pump?

It is inside the ABS module.

This is the 2 lights I'd lit up on my car recently and I too was getting conflicting advise on wether it was the speed sensor that plugs into the back of the hub or the ABS sensor within the hub but I at least knew it was the right front wheel which a decent scan should tell you ....

in in the end I needed new pads and discs and all round and got my garage to replace both hub and sensor whilst they were in ... Mechanic still isn't sure which it was that caused as neither looked that bad but problem is solved ...

I've still my engine management light on and had 2 air leaks... I've a new too hose coming hopefully Tuesday and need to see my garage if the part I think is leaking at the turbo is the one in the photo I found ... Then try  and order a new part before it

Hi ok thanks for the input at this time I have only the ESP light on and never had any ABS lights on.............yet. Had the car a year and of course it's not time.

Get it scanned, post up the full code and we can offer some exact advice relating to your issue.

I think you'd be best finding someone to do a proper scan who should narrow it down to at least which wheel it is causing the issue ....

Sadly a scan is still only a guide to the problem it's not going to be 100% that the issue is what it says it is ... As I said mine said wheel speed sensor but it could've been it or the hub hence why I just changed both.  ...

My scans also say I've a MAF sensor issue but the guy who ran the second scan says its fine and it's the air leaks causing it and my garage agrees with that

With just the ESP light on it’s unlikely to be related to anything wheel related.

Ok well not being in any great rush to get the car back on the road it's a slow process thanks everyone for the input. Sadly I've got nowhere but I am now back trying to sort the problem. Had the ABS pump removed and tested ooppss nothing wrong with it blast it. I have discovered without diagnostics equipment it's extremely difficult to get to the bottom of the problem. I priced up a diagnostics kit OMG don't think that's going to happen, great if your doing it for a living I should think but as I'm not . Can anyone recommend or is there anyone in the Ilfordish Essex area who A can read the codes and B can do the work am happy to reimburse/pay them for their services. Thanks Gareth

Sorry to drag this up again but am getting nowhere fast and very frustrated with this issue. Booked it in to a supposed specialist in wanstead the other week sort the esp light and put mot on it have the MOT but also still have the light on, said he'd run out of time and I'd have to re book well wont be doing that. Went to another workshop yesterday on the recommendation of a friend who told me the fault code was g419 a sensor was faulty but he could not tell me where this sensor was located. Was recommended to try a firm called NIRRO in Barking they told me it was under the passenger seat, well no it ain't. A is there anyone in my neck of the woods (Ilford) who can sort this problem please? B or at least can someone tell me for certain where this flipping sensor is located? Also been under the driver's seat back in July and sensor does not appear to be under there either? TIA Gareth

Hi, have you solved your problem as I’m having the same problem .ESP light on and need a MOT 😕

Hi not fixed yet but believe that we have located the problem we got a fault code of G419 unfortunately everyone told me the faulty sensor is under the seat, well it may well be on some cars but I have a 4 x 4 and apparently it's different to pretty much all others and although I have not physically checked yet it seems for some odd reason they put the sensor under the panel in front of the A pillar by your right foot. Crazy money from Volkswagen Audi but a firm on Ebay claims to do a refurb at half the price of Volkswagen, with a 12 month warranty.

😞 next car I’m going to get is gona be pre 2000 wind up windows no central locking and a pull out chock , all these electrical bits nowadays cost a mint and massive headache , hope you get it fixed soon :)

Make sure the company isn’t sinspeed. My mate sent his ECU to them for repair and never saw it again.

It's not the ecu it's the sensor I believe it's called a YAW sensor.

I’ll look into a YAW sensor never heard of one before , thanks

Hi everyone well unbelievably I am still not able to rectify the ESP light being on intermittently but more on than off. Have posted up about this a while back put it into a local ahem specialist he managed to get an MOT (I didn't ask) but he gave it back to me with light still on for over £300 which was almost 12 months ago but in the present climate car not really being used but of course needless to say it's MOT time again and the light is still on. I have the fault code G419 Esp sensor my problem being where the heck is the dam sensor located? Somebody must surely know? Please help. Happy to reimburse any reasonable expense. Thanks Gareth.
