Drivers Door Locking

Featured Replies

Just collected my new Kodiac and no instructions provided by the garage! Only having an online manual doesn’t make life any easier. I can lock the doors from the outside by touching the front passenger door handle. I can’t, however, do this on the drivers door. I either have to use the key fob or walk around to the passenger door. What am I doing wrong?

How are you trying to lock it?

If you are grabbing the handle then thats your problem (as you are trying to unlock and lock at the same time).

Touch the rectangle at the rear of the handle with the back of your hand and the car should lock.

(the only reason I say back of your hand is it’s impossible to ‘unlock’ the car at the same time this way.)

You don't say where you're based, but the first thing that occurred to me when reading your post was; what a shoddy service from your dealer and why don't you have a written manual, they come as standard in the UK.

Unless your dealer is a long way to travel, I'd go back to them and demand that they take the time to show you how all the basics work. That's also standard practice in the UK, or at least it should be if the dealer is doing his job correctly.

On the passenger door there is a raised part that when touched locks the doors. On the drivers side this is flush with the handle.

It’s a horrendous journey round the M25. I have been given a handbook, but it is only a few pages mostly relating to the screen system. Haven’t even been given a log book!

So you don’t have the rectangular indentation on the door handle?

That is terrible service, I would not go anywhere near that dealer again.

As for the handbook, you can use the MySkoda app on your phone to load it up, and it is quite handy that way, as searchable and you can bookmark sections you use a lot.

The standard handbook is quite a thick thing and contains much more than you're describing. The online version is more comprehensive though. Phone your dealer and speak to the dealer principal and demand that they send you a proper one, unless of course Skoda have stopped supplying those as well.

New Kodiaqs don't come with a service book, it's all digital now and the records are kept by Skoda.

Download the owners manual here...

Print it off until you get the chance to ring the dealer back and play holy hell.

If it is an independent garage (i.e. non-franchised Skoda retailer), then I hope you got it cheap. If things like the owners manual are missing, what else is wrong with it!?
