Octavia 3 1.4 TSI Economy

Featured Replies

I drove back from Scotland yesterday, covering over 500 miles in a single tank and hit my best MPG yet in my Octavia 1.4 tsi. Really warm all the way down and I had the air con on pretty much the whole way which didnt seem to affect the mileage at all. Absolutely love this car!

Has anyone else got better mileage from a full tank and single journey?

Wife's Karoq has the newer 1.5TSi with a manual gearbox and same 50 litre tank. Managed 63.2mpg and 590 miles from one tank.:tongueout:

That's impressive! Newer engine and different car though... 😉

Well my 2016 Superb (heavier than your Octavia with a bigger 66 litre fuel tank) had the same 1.4TSi ACT 148bhp engine and managed 64.5mpg and 800 miles from one tank.

Can't match that over a whole tank, but did once manage over 61 mpg on a single, 25-mile journey.

54mpg is typical for me on a motorway run up to Dundee and back. True 70mph when possible. I'd have to drive at 50mph to get better mpg. 700 miles return. As good or better than my 2l diesel Octavia.

That's awesome! I've been thinking about a Superb with a similar engine next to be honest. Big thumbs up from yourself then?

I was averaging around 63mpg over the first 100 miles as I was on B roads but it came down with the motorway miles.

I think long term that's where I'm at.It's the refinement that keeps impressing me. It's so quiet and comfortable. I got out of the car last night and felt fine.

Yeah I covered 16,000 miles in it over 16 months and it was very cheap motoring apart from the £6,000 depreciation of course. Regularly got over 700 miles per tank (about £81 to fill now). Not very heavy either mine was the SE and it came in at 1,320kg.

I think you will find that the 1.4tsi engine in the Octavia is not ACT....

Yeh, I know that 👍

Comment was aimed at @shyVRS245 who is a bit lazy to check what he types, accuracy is not his strong point.....😜.....too busy watching golf or other similarly dynamic sporting activity I expect.....

Aha! Apologies! There's always one isn't there? 😂

@gregoir

The many miles of Average Speed Cameras do wonders for getting the good fuel economy.

Some of the best i ever get is the 23 miles between Keir roundabout Stirling to Broxden Perth. then from there to Dundee.

I have never actually achieved a minor ambition of 1000+km on a tank in my 1.4tsi because, well, life gets in the way.

Most of our driving time is spent on local urban sub 5km journeys where it is almost impossible to better 5.6L/100km (50mpg). If we had a regular 10+km commute then I know I can get 5L/100km (56mpg) or better.

When my daughter lived in the country we would undertake a ~700km round trip and nearly always get a sub 5L/100km average with a projected ~400km remaining but on return we got back into normal driving/poor consumption routine and so the best tank I ever achieved was 925km.

A driving holiday earlier this year was my best bet of achieving my goal but a stiff headwind cruelled the best chance before we picked up overseas visitors in Melbourne. Thereafter the risk of running out of fuel in rural Australia was not an option.

The 1.4tsi is by far the most economical petrol vehicle I have owned.

Yep.  Me too,  But then I was a follower of the dark-side for a while, and so my most recent petrol vehicle before this was not exactly sophisticated even when new...

A 1985 Ford Sierra 1.8 Estate averaged about 30 mpg for me.

A 1987 VW Passat 1.8 Estate managed about 34 mpg (and could just about top 40 mpg on a long, gentle run)

A 1997 Skoda Felicia 1.3 MPi Estate managed about 42 mpg, but scarcely improved on a long-run as it tended to need to be thrashed to keep up with traffic...

The Felicia was 68 bhp, the Ford & VW 90 bhp.  All are comprehensively beaten by the economy of my 140 hp Octavia.  It's a great engine.

Think you need to cut down on the Bamboo it's clearly not good for Panda population due to your diminishing numbers particularly in China. Either that or they are using too many condoms?:inlove:
