Would not recommend buying a Skoda Yeti. Massive clutch problems that the dealership will say “it is your driving style” that caused the clutch to go. And then charge you a fortune to replace. Also had a friend who had battery problems constantly. Shame as we have an Octavia and Citigo that have been fine.

I've had one clutch fitted in the past 25 years, something like maybe a million miles at a guess, and that was a broken pressure plate at 240k miles on a Berlingo van  My daughter has had one clutch  and now needs another one on her Kia Sportage. The garage think maybe it's not a warranty issue, I'm inclined to agree.

I have had 2 x Yeti in the past 5 1/2 years and not a single fault.

Another owner of 2 Yetis in the past 7 years. Only problem being a failing heated seat element that was replaced free of charge during an annual service with no fuss whatsoever.

Is this a serious opinion, a new member with their first post who lives nowhere and has no car, carps about the Yeti?

I guess my response is that I did buy a Yeti because I have no reason to believe they generally have poor clutches (I doubt it's much different to the Octavia clutch in any case) and I would expect it to cost a bit to replace. I've never had to replace a clutch in over 35 years of car ownership and I know that people who slip the clutch go through clutches quickly. To be fair to the OP she may have had a rogue clutch, but without any info on age/bought new/used/mileage etc it's difficult to judge one way or the other.

And battery problems? Why didn't they just buy a new battery, after all it's got to be a few years old if it's a Yeti.

 

Of course it could just be a troll.

Sadly there has been instances of people buying cars and premature clutch failure and Skoda UK saying tough, users fault.

There have been ones that were Ex Demonstrators and that users were Dealership staff or family members and the 2nd keeper gets the expense.

Isn't the clutch guaranteed for 6 months from new? So if you buy a used car older than that it's just a risk you take regardless of misuse or manufacturing fault.

Yes a clutch is for Wear & Tear, 6 months / 6,500 miles maybe.

But not if inferior or faulty manufacturing / materials etc, and there are ones like that.

Then there is the 'Ex Demonstrator' thing, or the pretending that was what they are.

 

Maybe @KarenS will come back and tell the story on their Yeti's clutch.

I owned my Yeti, probably my best vehicle, for 37K and nearly 5yrs. I had no problems with it other than a false warning light on one occasion.

I was however always aware that VAG clutch/flywheel set-ups are not as robust as they should be. DMF have for many manufactures proved problematic and it would appear, possibly unfairly, that VAG are near the top of the pile on this issue.

I have driven since 1979, typically running cars to 70K and never had a clutch or flywheel issue until I went the VAG route. My Touran, same running gear as Octavia etc had a dmf and clutch under warranty at less than 18K and 18 months. It went again at near 70K costing me heavily. My wife's UP, same as Citi-Go, had the well documented clutch click and a new clutch and pedal box at 4 months and 2K.

Whilst the original post does come across as negative, especially for a first posting they are reporting a problem that unfortunately is not isolated. We see lots of good news on this forum but some bad news will also surface and I don't think it is unreasonable to post it.

I'm still running VAG as the overall package is very good, even though customer service is at times "a little less than helpful"  [I'm being polite]  and I am constantly aware that my clutch/flywheel will probably be the first thing to hit me with a heavy bill.

I've been lucky I think. The only clutch I've ever had to replace was late 60's early 70's in a Mini when I fitted a factory recondioned engine and then it was a case of 'while it's out and accessible'.

I fitted a new clutch to both a Capri and a mini, but only because the engines were out for repair. Both still had life left.

About 250 k in numerous Skoda’s over last 16 years with no serious issues so far

Three Skodas over the last ten years; one rear seatbelt catch replaced under warranty.  That's it!

 

In more than fifty years of motoring, I've only ever had to replace one clutch. 

That was on an eight-year-old Hillman Imp I purchased in 1973.

My dad had a Hillman Imp when I was about 4 years old. I still remember this because it was the most unreliable car he owned and it actually drove him to riding his bike to work for a while !

Old Boy and old Girl club still firmly in action in the Yeti section if a person genuinely comes to this section and expects a warm welcome.

My old 2.0 dti had a bit of a judder but I did some 25,000 miles like that before I sold it

 

I have had 4 Skoda's and only ever needed to do 1 thing under warranty and it was done with no fuss at all.

But did not hang about to hear any results or post any more details to a very weird post as a start on a forum.

By 1/2 5 on Saturday they migh have read enough.
