Where could this oil leak be coming from?

Featured Replies

As you have been so helpful in the past identifying where oil leaks have been coming from, it has another one that could ideally do with sorting if possible, two photos attached.

i have replaced the rocker cover seal, and the leak is in a different pattern when oil was coming out of here. (There of course is a chance that the cover was not bolted back on properly).

Strange, I can't think of many things at the top end of the engine that could leak oil like this. Definitely oil? Are the two pipes that vent from the rocker cover secure and good condition? (I recently had to replace the thin one as it had perished, though these might only leak small amounts of oil vapours rather than a proper leak).

Can only really be from the rocker cover or from spillage when topping up. Doesn't look much to worry about. Are you sure it's not from before you changed the rocker cover gasket?

Well, the easiest way to trace a leak like this is to clean up the evidence you've got, then keep a close eye on the area and find the highest point on any oil trail that appears.
