O2 pre FL with sound system - aftermarket HU in 2019

Featured Replies

Hello everybody!

I've been searching through the board's, and I know that there was a problem with android HU's and Sound System a.k.a. HU's not cooperating with Sound System external amplifier.

I was curious if anything changed in that matter or if anyone found a good solution to this problem?

Cheers!

I believe that the Erisin ones are ok.

Otherwise you can go aftermarket with a facia plate but it won't look so OEM if that bothers you.

Have You tried it?

Might be worth asking the seller to confirm it'll work with your factory amp?

Well, I actually did it , two sellers replied today (Joying and Erisin) and unfortunately they said it wont work.

I've found some informations that in this case there are soem kind of adaptors/converters that might help. Anyone heard of those?

Forgive me but I think I'm missing something here. Is Sound System some kind of VAG system?

Sound system normally means there is a separate factory fitted amplifier rather than using the one built in to the headunit. It may also have extra speakers rather than the standard 8.

The issue is that the factory amplifier relies on can-bus signals to turn on/off and change the eq. Most aftermarket headunit don't send these so the amp never turns on 🙂

So do all models have an external amp or is it a special option?

My understanding was that an aftermarket double DIN would plug in but need just an ignition switched live. Is this not the case or only if the car had an upgraded Sound System from the factory?

Most will use the internal amp built in to the headunit. An external amp is normally a cost option although some spec levels may include it.

At least for the MK2 Octavia, I think it's commonly labelled canton.

The standard quadlock connector does not have a switched live or illumination/backlight feed. Instead, all communication is done over can-bus.

This is fine for an OEM headunit, but if an aftermarket headunit doesn't support the can-bus messages used in the Octavia, you'll need some other way to have the headunit turn on/off with the ignition etc.

The cheapest is to run a new switched live, you can also use a can-bus adapter to create a switched live and illumination from the can-bus messages.

This is the same regardless of whether the optional upgraded sound system has been fitted 🙂

Thanks, that was how I understood it but was starting to doubt my understanding!

Usually the ext amp is mounted under front passenger seat, check it out.
