Help! P0121 throttle sensor.

Featured Replies

Ive just had the exhaust warning light come on and the obd11 reader shows one error code, p0121. Throttle position sensor.

The car drives fine at the moment. A quick search would suggest a dirty throttle body which needs cleaning out. (Car had the emmisions fix done 3 years ago)

Providing the cars performance doesnt drop, am i safe to caery on driving until i can get it checked out? Im having a new timing belt fitted next monday so will ask the guy to check this at the same time if he can.

Cheers guys,

Paul.

Cheers colin. If the warning comes back ill get it looked at under warranty, if not, ill see if the bloke who replaces my timing belt will clean the throttle body out.

For peace of mind I'd stiil take it in , get the codes identified and cleared.

I was going to take the throttle body off and clean it, but i cant get the blooming electronic plug to disconnect from the throttle body! Ive tried everything short of breaking it. Is there a knack to removing this? I tried looking for a video but couldnt find one. Anyone cleaned their throttle body who can advise how to remove this plug?

From Yetipedia on the "Yeti Owners Club" forum.

"" To release the electrical connector, push down the holding clip (strong finger nail or stubby flat blade screwdriver), then pull the cable and rubber sheath to the left. The outer part of the plug is hard plastic. Once the clip is released, that pulls off the socket by gripping the hard plastic part and pull to left. NOT tugging on the cable! Leaving a slightly smaller cross-section oval socket behind, attached to the throttle body control unit. The hard plastic socket remains attached to the Throttle Body control unit. ""

This might be why im having trouble, there is no black clip on this particular plug! I wonder if the previous owner snapped it off.....i will have another go at removing it by pushing it on before trying to press where the black clip should be to see if that helps. Thanks for the video clip!

There's another way that involves slipping a little dental pick or similar up from the other end of the latch. Will find link later.

I've tried this and it's actually even easier than the other way.

Thanks for this, but i still cant shift it. Im wondering now if the previous owner has glued the plug in place. I think im going to have to get a mechanic to have a look. I cant believe what should be the easiest part of removing the throttle body is turning out to be so hard.

One thing i might try is to leave the throttle body in place, remove the hose of the end and see if i can spray carb cleaner directly into the open end of the body and try to remove as much gunk as i can, using a container to catch any stuff that comes out.

I dont know how, but managed to finally get the plug off! Managed to remove and clean the throttle body, it was totally full of gunk! Have cleared the code and hope that solves it. Time will tell!
