Anyone ? :D

I seen this on pg 79 of the manual' date=' but as ever it has a star beside it (standard on certain models). I know there would be a specific one for cars with memory for the drivers seat but the Tilting one doesn’t specify a need for the electric seats.

Anyone got it to work on their RS?

Also, anyone found if the Automatic dimming exterior mirror works on the RS. Also model specific but its supposed to dim with the interior rear view mirror.[/quote']

Hi

can't comment on the RS but I have an L&K and my mate has an elegance, we asked the dealer whi his didn't work and were told that the auto tilting mirror is part of the memory seat. No idea why but there ya go.

(this is not directed at you) but I find that a load of rubbish, otherwise why does it need a seperate paragraph in the manual. And especially so when the paragraph specifically refers to the "memory for extrior mirrors" requiring the memory for drivers seat.

Surely due to the autodimming being available then the mirrors should both tilt for the whole system to be beneficial. (Again this doesn't state that the memory for drivers seat is required).

I thought that the Auto-dimming mirror was part of the rain-sensors ?

Or am I making this up ?

Auto diming mirror is one thing, just the unit.

Usually the auto dipping mirror on the n/s is tied in with seat memory, but this is just for a kerb view when reversing for parallel park.

But if the Unit is there and we already have electric mirrors then can there be much else required ? Its hardly a case of Vag Com enabled ?

Why would they have a auto dipping aswell as a Memory for Exterior Mirrors on cars with Elec Seats? Its just on the manual is specifically refers to when Electric seats are involved but not with the Dipping, if ya get me.

Same as above regarding equipment required, I assume most of it is there.

Why would they have a auto dipping aswell as a Memory for Exterior Mirrors on cars with Elec Seats? .

Because the memory part of it is for where you have the seat positioned so the mirrors match. The auto dipping n/s mirror drops regardless of where the seat is at just so you can see the kerb when reversing.

The auto dipping internal rear view mirror is a self contained unit, just has a feed wire to it. It doesnt actually move iirc, it just changes polarisation.

Thats exactly why I figured that it wasn't solely on cars with Electric seats. The mirrors are electric already and there would need to be a feed from the reverse gear (which on mine must be there already due to parking sensors). By the sound of things it could very easily have been incorporated into the RS' date=' and other models.

I figured that ;), Again with the dipping unit there, and electric mirrors then this should easily be featured on eg RS with a feed to the mirrors, unless of course theres different mirrors.

You have to have memory seats because you set both positions on the memory. Set it for normal driving then engage reverse gear, set the mirror for your parking position and store the memory again.

Auto diming mirror has a button on the bottom of it to turn it on, and two little bits at the bottom, one an LED to tell you its active, the other the light sensor.

Hope this solves your query.

Theres another feature apart from the setting mirror position, which is referred to in the manual. It tilt's the mirror when reversed is engaged, as Lummox says it drops regardless of seat positioning.

Another feature, again according to the manual is that Both Exterior mirror tilt, I assume at the same time that the rear view mirror adjusts (due to lights behind you). I assume its to stop you getting blinded by the exterior/wing mirrors when theres a car behind you.

It does dip regardles of seat positioning but you first need to set where it is dipped to via the memory buttons.

It is frustrating that there are extra things available to other markets.

For example, you can get fridges in Superb rear arm rests and front seats with hatches for rear seat passengers to put their feet through.

It is always intersting reading manuals cover to cover as you find out all sorts of intersting things.

this is all very confusing

Ross might correct me here but i discussed this months ago. This is my understanding of it.

If you have electric seats then these have a memory function and you also get a automatic wing mirrror controller thrown in which has a memory function. An additional feature of this controller is that it can dip (ie physically tilt) the nearside mirror so u can see the kerb when u go into reverse gear. Thus no electric seats, no automatic controller and no auto dipping.

The auto 'dimming' function of the wing mirrors does what Ross says and adjusts the polarity of the mirror (like reactolite sunglasses). This facility is either a regional spec variation or you only get it with the L&K. It may be related to the automatic mirror controller tho and thus if available at all on UK/Irish spec motors, its probably only the L&K.

Sorry Johnny I must have missed that post :o

Its probably a lot to do with the way its explained in the manual.

I must read the manual again, but they talk about this auto dipping. Then the next heading is the one about the automatic wing mirror controller, whereas if it were all incorporated under the electric seats there'd be no confusion.

Its a pity we don't have this as its a very useful function.

@ Lummox - is there any way of getting a definite answer on it from the powers that be ;) .

I dont know anything other than at this moment my head hurts and im thinking of ending it all.

I hate customers like Gaff ;)

Memory seats (electric) and memory exterior mirror settings go hand in hand.

The seat position is set and corresponding mirror settings required for sitting in the set position and programed to be set whenever that drivers key fob is used to open the car. The settings including reverse setting is recorded at least on the Superb after the seat and mirror positions are in position - so its probably the same controller

The other drivers fob will be set to their desired seat and desired mirror positions and again recorded in a single operation.

for example my wifes fob when she opens the car the drivers seat moves to her position and her recorded mirror settings - when she selects reverse her recorded passenger mirror tilt operates. My fob sets my seat and mirrors to my recorded settings which have been set by me.

Mirrors and seat settings need to be matched personally to a driver ideally so thats probably why the auto memory mirrors are only fitted when electric memory seats are fitted

Jaysus' date=' I was hoping you won't take it like that :)

my head hurts and im thinking of ending it all.

Please don't, its just we all know we can trust to get the right answer off your good self. No point in me emailing customer case and get some made up answer ;)

Aren't you lucky I don't live in the UK so :P

Btw I hope you see the point I was getting at (I wasn't trying to question you)

Topic exhausted. Next question please Gaff
