As above mines started making a noise Bush is worn I reckon, cars had an engine replaced in the past no doubt turbo was just swopped over and it its been starved of oil when last eng let go shaft would have got hot, so who's best to get a remanufacture turbo from

1.4 twin boost, noise stopped this morning, she's down on power so I expect turbo seized,or waste gate stuck, also the dump valves break on these, short gentle journey home and tommorow take turbo off and investigate, off next week have other cars so not really bothered and have a turbo specialist near me

Best saying that in posts because on the phone you can not see what car in signiture.

 

Best plan get a turbo and upgrade manifold because the intake manifold is crap and the problem with the 1 plug that fouls getting cooked.

Turbo failure if Twin Chargers really not a common issue.

Yes better Turbo and the manifold that comes with it.

Plenty posts / threads on Twinchargers over the past 9 years if you look.

Is it down on power up to 3,400 rpm with Super Charger & Turbo or above 3,400 RPM?

 

Is is it a CAVE or CTHE Engine you have and has the Water Pump been changed?

Is it standard or modded. down pipe, exhaust, plugs, coils, remap?

Has the time chain been checked if a CTHE?

Cave eng, replacement eng, possible remap, just replaced coilpack and denso iridium plugs, eng smooth doesn't use eny oil, or get hot, noise yesterday was defo turbo, don't know about exhaust looks all stock, will check revs on way home,

When and at what miles was the engine changed and how many miles has it done now?

He knows the cars well.

No idea when eng was replaced, will be checking with local main dealer on computer, think it was prior last owner who did very little miles, has 57000 on clock now,

Could you do me a favour please that would help me help a friend.

 

Skoda UK Customer Services are starting to act stupid and telling owners with cars with replacement engines to ask a Main Dealer as they have no record.

They have the System, it is their system the Dealership has access to.

 

They paid for the Warranty Work, the engines are Imported by VW / Skoda, they know the numbers, they need records for the DVLA / DVSA and i suspect they are trying to be able in court to deny knowledge as a 'defence' in any court actions.

 

Could you ask them in writing.

'When was the engine replaced in my car, & where?'        They should answer as Owners may need this information if questioned by DfT / DVSA / Police, like for like engine swap.

I will do that, I need for my records as what else has been replaced as I suspect eng replaced but not turbo etc and unless it a ball bearing turbo the slightest oil starvation and shaft gets hot, I've run alot of import subarus and modified them so I'm OK around turbos, bloody annoying though, 

Engine replacements were crazy.

 

A car might have a new engine and that was with new spark plugs at 36,000 miles.

Skoda said service by car miles,

so at 40,000 miles they & dealership said a Major Service, Air Filter, Spark Plugs, Oil & Filter. £250 Plus.

 

Luckily some Dealerships and Techs are not as stupid as Skoda Customer Services.

 

Your Turbo and water pump and belts might well just have been swapped.  So done 56,000 miles.   Inspect the 2 belts.

It was rebuilds of engines in 2010/2011, then Short Units, then later Base Engines.

All very complicated, and like it never happened, vag knew there was a problem right early on including the gearbox too, huge recalls around the world but kept hush hush in UK? It seams and every dealership was different 

Whole eng has defo been replace, will go into more close inspection including eng number etc as have time 8 days apart from youngest daughter 21st Tuesday, so will be out of action after that self inflicted 😜👍

Engine Number a whole kettle of fish / can of worms.  (DVSA (VOSA) Dft, DVLA, Police, Insurance / Loss adjuster can not find them. They do not match V5.)

I will bump the DVLA thread for my friends sake. 

  He is going all the way against Skoda UK. Scottish Court.

 

Look at the small orange sticker for a build date of the engine.  Driver side right hand drive.

Refurbished or new.   

 

Look at the 4 numbers and see if the 4 on the ECU match.   eg 9519

In terms of upgrading, There's not much point in paying the £££ for a hybrid unless your going all out and looking to push that 260+ BHP and have deep........and I mean deep pockets.

I thought he meant upgrade hybred manifold, I don't want more power as I want to prolong life as its my daily work hack

To my eye and i have seen a few that is a 'refurbished engine from the VW plant in Germany' or some other plant.

Looks not as well painted though, and the bar code etc is usually there.

*Nothing wrong with that if a VW refurbished, it might well have the later Oil Spray Jets.*

 

All the documentation, bar codes / Engine Number date of Import should be with Skoda / VW, as the Law requires.

 

As to the OEM Silver VW Filters they changed to, i have no time for them and use Mahle filters, not to save money, i would pay the same as the VW / Audi branded one,

but rather because of past experiences.

Yep engine is nicely put together from outside condition good gaskets clean new sump etc had vw plugs in, now in bin and I've oil and a bosch filter to fit

Following,, quick look on intake side of turbo it's foopard slapping about and worn blades on case, so tommorow if I feel like it it's all coming off, think as I'm keeping car for abit I'll get a rebuild with 2yr garentee, better than a new one lol
