5f control unit failure (Bolero) £1115

Featured Replies

OK that's great - didn't want to take such a radical step before getting confirmation though!

Thanks!

Ok, connector shaved and I have now tried the two units together in the car prior to taking it to the local Skoda dealer, which is going to remove CP (at what seems like a very excessive price!).

The only question I have at this stage is that when I tried the new head unit with the old display, it worked at first but with the problem of the incorrect resolution display and then after a while the words Component Protection were displayed.

However now with the new display, although I can see that the screen is on (faint illumination across the whole screen), nothing else happens on the display, and there is no sound. Is this normal when CP kicks in?

Yes that is normal when CP locked.

Not brilliant news - I have had the CP removed from the new 5Q0 0358 74 A head unit and although the radio is now working fine, and the buttons seem to function OK (pressing Media switches from the radio), the display is not showing anything other than the slight glow of the backlight.

The old head unit and display were working fine, and the new head unit worked OK with the old display albeit at reduced resolution, but not with the new one.

As a reminder, part numbers are as follows:

Head unit: 5Q0 0358 74 A to replace original 5E0 0358 42 A

Display: 5E0 919 605 J to replace original 5E0 919 605 B

Any clues, or is it simply a faulty display?

Very strange. All I can suggest is to check the connections are nice and tight and take it from there.

Just as an update, it turned out the display was faulty. The person I bought it from on eBay refunded without any questions, so I suspect he might have known it was a bit dodgy!

I have now purchased a 5E0919605M display which turned up the other day and which works absolutely fine and is great. So all is now (pretty much) well!

Thanks for your assistance through this process.

hello, i read the whole page, your information was very helpful, thank you. I have a question. My vehicle is 2014 model, so there is no mirrorlink. I am thinking of replacing it with a screen from the 2015 model vehicle. Is CP activation required when I change both the screen and the unit? I have shared the current and new device codes below. If cp is required, I will give up the procedure as it will be difficult for me to have it done in the country where I am.

Current screen:5E0 919 605 B
Current Head Unit:5E0 035 842 A

New Screen:5E0 919 605 H
New Head Unit:5Q0 035 840 A

@SashaGrace @nickcoll thanks a lot.

Yes CP removal is required for any MIB swap but you can get units posted to you CP free.
