2016 Skoda Superb - Alarm keeps going off

Featured Replies

Hi all.

I searched long and hard before posting this and I can see so many people having similar issues but I couldn't find anyone having this issue on the new skoda superb?

From the other posts that people have reported (octavia, fabia etc) there are varied answers on what may be causing this...

1) low battery

2) air pressure

3) insects

I haven't had this issue ever before but now in the last week, the issue has occurred intermittently, sometimes the alarm goes off every two hours or so.

I have taken it to the dealer who said there is no fault code and so nothing wrong with the car. I have no faith in this Skoda Dealer if I am honest but what else can I do?

Any help would be appreciated

I had this in 2005 with a new Fabia. It was mid winter and very, very cold. Turned out it had a faulty alternator which was taking its toll on the battery.

2 things that have caused alarm problems on my or friends' cars (not Skodas though):

Dodgy bonnet switches

Ultrasonic interior sensors

On most cars, you can disable the interior sensors by pressing the remote locking button twice when you lock the car- this is what you would do if you left a child or animal in the car. Try this. If it stops the problem, it's either a faulty sensor or something moving around inside the car.

Bonnet switch can be disconnected. If this stops the problem, fit a new switch.

Thanks for this.

I have tried the double lock method but how can I locate / test the bonnet switch? Would you know?

No idea where the switch is on your car, but it's normally a black plastic plunger that sticks up from a bracket on the inner wing.

Same switch usually operates the under bonnet light if your car has one of those. A faulty switch would mean the light stays on all the time, or doesn't come on at all.

Hello yayatoure did you manage to detect what is causing that your alarm keeps going off?

Hi sorry yes I should have updated this post.

The battery was the issue.

Disappointed with skoda if I am honest, or the skoda dealer should I say.

This was the first time I owned a skoda (superb 2016) and felt let down when the intruder alarm going off in year 3 (2019) also felt let down by skoda East London who took the car in but couldn't find any faults with the alarm - yet this forum is full of posts about the car alarm going off randomly is linked to a weak battery.

Called RAC out, they swapped the battery and no more car alarm going off randomly issues.

Not sure if I will go for skoda again although the new superb IV hybrid looks tempting.

Thank you I will look in to it.

I had the repeated alarm problem with my Skoda Superb a few months ago but it corrected itself.

now it’s come back. I think I might have a temporary fix:

Remove the alarm fuse 34. This doesn’t work immediately because the alarm has a backup battery but after about five more episodes, I think it has exhausted and the alarm has stopped.

this isn’t a permanent solution and I suspect that it could invalidate your insurance but it will stop you and the neighbours going crazy while you wait to take it to the dealership.

When I have enough free time, I’m going to put the fuse back and see if the problem returns. Watch this space

Sorry I should have updated this post. It was a battery issue (I think this has already been posted by other users on this forum) - The battery was on its way out - Once it was replaced I had no more false alarm issues. Hope this helps.

My 2016 280 L&K alarm has just decided to start going off at 2 am for no apparent reason- why is it always in the middle of the night? The neighbours must love me.....

Funny thing is that after weeks of lock down, short local journeys & a flat battery at one point (dash cam left on) the engine start-stop stopped working. During this time I had no alarm issues at all.  Until that is the other day when after a long run the SS started working again which I assume was because the battery was back up to full strength. Then the other night the alarm decides to go off at 2 am - 3 times with a 20 min delay between each event! Only when I trudged downstairs & opened the drivers door & re-locked the car did the alarm not go off again. Then last night the alarm decided to go off again. Again three times before the 3rd remote reset finally silenced it.

There does not appear to be any reason why the alarm is triggering. The doors / boot are all closing OK, no errors on dash, no animals or kids left in the car & it starts up on the button every time. Battery issues could be the cause but that seems unlikely now the car is having longer runs & the SS has started working again - intermittently. That said I have read a number of threads about battery issues with different Skoda / VW models at 2-3 years.  As far as I know my car (bought Feb 2019) still has the original battery which is nearly 4 years old now.

Does anyone have any ideas before I shell out for a new battery?

One oderty that I experinced with my old 2010 Octavia Scout - was that the Alarm would randomly go off.  Turned out to be the proximety sensor inside the car - near the internal curtosy lights.

I found a whole load of dust had got into the sensor.  Blowing it out and gentily sucking (with a hoover) on the sensor sorted out the problem.
