When was the cambelt/idler/tensioner/waterpump last changed?

15000 km ago

@Mike_mike - Well, I'm having similar thoughts to @chrisund123 , with the note that a replacement cam belt does not guarantee replacement of the idler and tensioner assemblies, and the water pump would be billed as a separate part.

replaced under my nose...so i m sure of the replacement. the question is what should i start with and how dangerous it is ?

A screwdriver. Not a joke but a presumption that you don't have on demand access to an engine stethoscope; touch the handle to the engine where you hear the noise coming from, and use the blade to further isolate the source.

Best case; sometimes we hear things that aren't there.

Worst case; big bang followed by new engine.

tried the screwdriver...and the sound doesn t seem to come from the hpfp...but rather from the idler pulley or another pulley from the top part of the timing assembly

15,000 km isn't a long time, but possible for the parts to be faulty.

What brand were the parts? OEM or aftermarket?

I'd be getting the belt off and turning them by hand to check the bearings for roughness and squeaks. It's a PITA to investigate, but I'd want to rule it out as a matter of urgency, rather than find out the hard way.

SOLVED !

top pulley was faulty (g3 in the picture ). it had a broken seal and all the grease leaked out the back. it was Daiko. 20 minute job. replaced it with an skf new one. 10 dollars. me happy :)

how does the timing belt look to you guys?

Nearly new.

Belt looks ok, but has it been contaminated by the grease? If it has, it's recommended to change it in case the rubber deteriorates.

no grease on the belt.

Sounds like you've gotten away with it then! Well done on spotting the noise and dealing with it quickly, the consequences of not finding the failed part could have been huge.
