ECU reset

Featured Replies

So flicking thru problems page in Car Mechanics magazine reader was told that after changing oil on his Mazda diesel with dpf the ECU would need to be reset to avoid oil dilution during dpf regeneration process putting the car info limp mode. Having just bought a Fabia Greenline 1.4 TDI 2008 with dpf would I have to do the same after changing the oil ? This is the first car we've had with dpf, so bit surprised and concerned to read this, thanks.....

@Cheapas

It is not part of the procedure for changing Skoda / VW TDI (Diesels)  engine oil so Technicians and Fitters are not doing it and neither are DIY'ers.

Thanks Rootootemoot, that's a relief, amazing how diesels have got more complicated over the years with regards to emissions control. Still curious as to why some manufacturers would make a basic oil change so complicated, maybe to discourage the diyer.

I'd be taking everything written in Car Mechanic with a spot of salt as over the past maybe 20 years they have taken on lots of "keen to learn" younger contributors as they will be a lot cheaper to run, and they seem to be maybe learning on the job. I keep meaning to cancel my subs to it but there are some gem of knowledge in there if you able to correct/decode it, and not just take it as written.

Take your point rum4mo but I checked on Mazda forum and it seems to be true. Regarding Car Mechanics mag I've read it since the 80's on/off. Problems pages are handled by a chap who runs or ran his own workshop and seems to have a vast knowledge. His predecessor who sadly passed away helped me out a couple of times. Since they've changed editor mag for me has got more technical, most of it way above my head, but I suppose that's cars in general today.
