Hi,

 

I got an interesting problem, Dash backlight illumination flicker without aparent reason. Backlights of intrument panel, hazzard light triangle and buttons above the radio and radio illumination. Everything is functional, just flickering, sometimes 3-4 times in a row in 1 minute, sometimes 2-3 timen in hour.

 

I didn`t notice illumination on doors flicker for windows.

 

any ideas ?

What year was your car made?

 

It sounds like it may be a problem with a bad contact inside the illumination adjustment potentiometer.

I don't know how easy it is to swap that part, but that would be what I would try first (or just see if changing the position of the adjustment makes the problem better or worse)

 

Wino- USUAL electronic cure for this is switch cleaner, but be careful which type you use as some types can damage the pot. Sometimes a good physical workout sorts it out temporally. ( Swimbo reply to that one not printable)

I never need to have the setting on anything but high, so for me- I'd be looking at pot to see if it's possible to short out pot and let panel run on max illumination. Haynes mentions switch removal. I've tried out of curiosity, but perhaps the instructions need a bit of Haynes translation ( as in tap gently translates to welly it 0
