White smoke and engine cutting out

Featured Replies

Hi there guys recently had turbo changed on my ibiza pd130 (asz) , did about 90 miles in it till it broke down. Before it broke I revved it to 2.5k rpm and shortly after heard strange noise from turbo, couple of seconds later the car cut out and white smoke out exhaust.

The car now starts but will cut out and start smoking through exhaust, will most likely get checked Monday but want people's opinions on this?

By the way didn't thrash car at all as was told to take easy for few hundred miles then service again, any help would be appreciated.

- What was the original cause of turbo failure?

- was the intercooler and all pipe work (including inlet) removed/cleaned

- new oil and filter fitted?

- new oil feed line fitted?

Intercooler and pipe work cleaned new oil and filter too, don't think it had new oil feed though.

Don't really know why the original turbo failed all I know is the blades were broken and all inside the intercooler.

Probable clue, particularly if you have black smoke and lack of power now.

Turns out the engine is destroyed, upon starting car at garage heard a loud bang and now won't crank. Guess it's time to fit a new engine

Cambelt failure I guess.

Not sure as of yet as will find out when drop the engine out, I reckon some pieces of old turbo made its way into engine as when turbo went it happened on motorway and I carried on driving home.

Unlikely, the pieces would have to be tiny to get through the intercooler to the engine and pieces that small would just pass straight through and get blown out of the exhaust.

I’d be surprised if the engine had gone because of the turbo failing. Something similar happened on my old Astra. The turbo turbines completely disintegrated into the inter cooler and pipe work and the Astra wouldn’t even crank from the point it happened. Literally pulled over turned the engine off then I couldn’t even get it to crank when we tried to get it on to the tow truck.

replaced the turbo cleaned out everything and changed the oil and filter and we were back to running as before.
