Assist Systems errors

Featured Replies

Hello all

A slightly odd error on my Superb of the last few days...

With Blind Spot Mntr & Rear Traffic Al. ticked as below:-

20190903_071027.thumb.jpg.a2920d62ad0f0240e4a8b5e8d290443d.jpg

When I turn on the parking sensors (or they turn on automatically by engaging reverse or pulling up close to another object!) the following error flashes up briefly accompanied by a 'bong'

And the Blind Spot Mntr and Rear Traffic Al. are both turned off.

Any ideas guys & girls???

Any damage or dirt/obstructions over the sensors?

Could be several things I suppose; sensors, wiring (loose connection or similar), data bus fault, ECU wobble.  Any warranty on the car?  A scan would likely be a good place to start.

These two things both use the same radar sensor in the rear bumper area. My sister’s nearly new Karoq had this problem, I’m not sure how it was fixed (under warranty), whether it was a wiring issue or the radar unit. Anyway, there is definitely a fault but I suppose it could be as simple as the fuse powering the radar unit. Is it still under warranty? Any bumps to the rear bumper area?

With my sister’s car, VCDS could not communicate with the relevant module at all - it was completely dead.

Just had a towbar fitted.............

Are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Could be obstructing something.  Perhaps an electrics/harness is obscuring the sensors on the inside of the bumper (?)

I would say yes!

I had this! Can’t remember why it started doing it but I cleared some faults codes using VCDS and it’s been fine since.

Daft question but do you have anything (e.g. caravan or bike rack) attached to the towbar electrical socket? If it detects a connection then it will disable the sensors. As soon as I pull away with my caravan attached it 'bong's and I get the message.

Annoyingly it doesn't turn them back on when I disconnect the caravan.

No I don't currently - the bongs only occur when engaging reverse (and activating parking sensors + camera) or when nudging up close to an object when moving forwards (also activating parking sensors)

I think I'll have a look with VCDS & see if I can clear down any fault codes

My dad had this with his kodiaq. Turned out 1 sensor in the rear bumber was slightly pushed in. Really hard to spot.

But with a towbar just fitted, its probably a loose connection or uncleared fault.

Try resetting the driver aids in the car menu on your navi

I had that when my towbar was fitted. It would happen when something was plugged into the towbar electrics and reverse was selected, which then latched until the “fault” was cleared – until next time.

Although the towbar module was the same as factory (Westfalia) it hadn’t been coded properly. The Westfalia coding tool only went to 2017 model year, mine was 2018.

After much to and fro with the fitters even buying a new tool and consulting the tech help, they used VCDS to code:

Lane Assist coding

Byte 2: 12 -> 22

That immediately sorted it. Hope this helps.

Thanks loads all.

Just a quick update - I've cleared all the fault codes with VCDS and I can't replicate the problem again (yet)

However as @Ivan8192 has mentioned above it could reoccur when plugging my trailer in so dead handy to have that coding tweak to hand if it ever bubbles up again!!!!

Cheers

A bit late to the party on this, but I had the same issue.  After 2.5 years of everything working as expected, the error occurred as I was driving along and I eventually noticed that Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Traffic Alert systems were disabled.  Enabling them would work for some period of time, but then the error would happen again and they would remain disabled.  After some playing around I found that I could reliably get the sensors to fail by simply putting the car into reverse.

No obvious faults were logged with VCDS, but I only have the HEX+CAN interface which can't communicate with all the modules in the car.

Car was booked into the garage for a warranty repair and on collection it was reported that a fault was found which required a software update to resolve.  Since then I've not had the problem re-occur.

Same here - although if I manually turned on the parking sensors or edged up close to something whilst parking or manouvering going forward (thus enabling the front parking sensors automatically) it also did it. This led me to surmise that it must be something to do with a sensor error somewhere!!!

Some really helpful peeps on here.

Well, well, well!

Plugged in my trailer & bingo problem back again! Just cleared all fault codes with VCDS and done the 'tweak' mentioned by @Ivan8192 suggested and hopefully that'll sort it!

Fingers crossed guys.

Exact same poproblem here on a 2½ year old car.

Took it into dealer, they said they found a fault in one of the control boxes for the park assist system and ordered another one under warrentee. On picking the car up (before the warrentee repair) all worked as normal and continued to do so. Had the box replaced anyway as they had ordered it in.

To me it seem like there may have been a loose / dirty connection somewhere that when techs disconnected and then  reconnected sorted the problem.

I do not have a tow bar fitted.
