Sleepy Turbo

Featured Replies

It was the first MOT for my Octavia today and it failed, fortunately it was due to inept servicing from my local dealer and the issue was fixed FOC by the MOT centre. After getting the all clear they suggested I also get the Turbo checked out too.

On start up the engine gives very little power, in order to get the turbo to wake up I have to floor it in 1st gear. I pootle along at about 10mph with pedal down then about 100yds all the horses wake up and I'm off.

Once the power has kicked in it is fine for the rest of the journey, through all the gears etc. Then next start we go through the same procedure, I'd just put it down to the fact that the turbo needed to warm up.

It had a major service only a few weeks ago and the local Skoda dealer didn't mention anything about it. It has been doing it ever since I've had the car, which is a little over 18months.

I'm feeling foolish and ever more frustrated with my dealer now...

Has anyone else experience this sort of power problem before or offer any advice?

Maybe it's a sensor gone, MAF gets mentioned a lot so that could be one of the ones to check.

Worth having a look for a different dealer though by the sound of things.. :(

If the turbo is a variable vane one, maybe the thing is sticking a little and the quick blast unsticks it.

If you drive a good few miles without using the turbo to let it warm up then give it a go does the same happen?

Just a guess i'm affraid

Repeatedly flooring it in 1st is not a good idea. That's the best way to kill your dif/gearbox.

**Quick Update **

Took it down to the dealer this morning, they reckon the turbo is fine but needs a new air flow meter. Will be replacing it under warranty next week.

Got a refund for the cost of the labour they charged me for the badly fitted parts that caused the MOT failure.

Will be servicing the new Fabia elsewhere just in case.... ;)

Cheers for the advice
