Are the Kodiaq Roof rails different to the 3T Superb 2?

Featured Replies

I bought Thule cross bars and feet for my Superb 2 Combi 6 years ago.

Both Thule and Rola's web sites recommend different cross bars and feet for the Superb 2 and the Kodiaq.

The rails look more or less the same shape to me.

Does anyone know if the superb feet are OK and safe to fit?

(It's understood that the Kodiaq is wider than the Superb so the rail length would be different, I'm more asking about the feet/clampy bit).

Ta.

I'm not sure what you mean by a 3T Superb 2. If you mean the second generation of Superb (I had one of those, it was a 2013 model), then yes, the rails are different. They look very similar to the untrained eye and although the overall diameter is similar, the profile is different and the Kodoaq rails sit on the roof at a different angle to the Superb version.

I'm doing this from memory as I not currently at home, but the foot pack I had on the Superb was the 757, but when I offered that up to the Kodiaq rails they weren't a good fit and sat on the rails at the wrong angle. Because I carry Canadian canoes on the roof I need my set up to be as secure as possible, so I bought the 775 foot pack that Thule recommend for the Kodiaq. These are much more secure than the 757s because they have a metal strap that passes under the rails making for a good solid fit.

When I was buying my car there was a Karoq in the showroom with Skoda branded roof bars on it and the foot pack for them was the same design as the Thule 775s.

I had a discussion here a while back with someone who uses the 757 foot pack on his Kodiaq and fixes a roof box to it. He reckons it's fine, but for my usage I would never take the chance and the fact that Thule recommend the 775 foot pack for the Kodiaq tells it's own story.

The Thule roof bars and foot pack (757) bought for and used on my 2008 MkII Octavia estate fit the Kodiaq perfectly, despite Thule recommending a different foot pack for the Kodiaq, but not sure on the Superb, sorry...

Thule's 775 foot pack is their latest generic one-size-fits-all design, it is designed to fit almost all roof rails. Since it's release Thule also recommend it for use on the Octavia, but also continue to list the 757 as being suitable. I thought I'd wait until my Kodiaq was delivered before deciding if I'd need a new foot pack. It was quickly clear that the 757 fits fine.

Thule website now has the same footpack recommended for Superb II and Kodiaq, model SKU 710400, so I would take that as the feet you have will fit.  Bars though are quite a bit wider, so you will have to change them, as not sure you would get the front bar to fit.

Thanks olderman1, 3T superb was the superb 2, 3T4 was the sedan and 3T5 was the wagon/combi.  3U superb was the Superb 1.

Thanks silver1011, I do indeed have the 757 foot pack for the superb so I guess I'll give it a bash on the Kodiaq for a test run first.

I take your warning on board; I'll test fit and see how it makes me feel.

The Thule 775 foot pack is simply an updated design primarily to reduce the number of feet in their range, complexity reduction.

It uses an adjustable strap that more easily accommodates the large variety of different roof bars across multiple manufacturers.

The 757 foot pack fits the Kodiaq roof bars perfectly, as you can see in my earlier pictures. My roof box is big, and on occasion it is likely I've overloaded it. I've done a good few thousand miles with it fitted and more often than not forget it's there.

The Thule WingBars I have were a good width for my Octavia, and are still a good width on the Kodiaq, so it is likely the roof bar widths across the Octavia, Superb and Kodiaq are very similar.

Thank you @silver1011, that is reassuring.

It looks like you’ve got the 118 cm wide wingbars. The Thule website recommended me the 127 cm wide wingbar before. Looking at your pictures, the 118 cm looks like the right size.

I'm not sure where Thule measure from but as you can see in my pictures mine measure 122cm end-to-end, strangely inbetween 118cm and 127cm?

-2 cm per end cap = 118 cm.
