Rear drive mk1 octavias

Featured Replies

Hi all.

Seen a few historical threads started by people mulling over doing a rwd octavia mk1, all seem to have gone quiet. Spotted on youtube a grey one that someone in Europe (possibly czech) has done. I have messaged them on facebook to find out more as it intrigues me. Has anyone got any more info on this car?

Basically, from memory on the older threads, the easiest way is -

one takes a 4wd mk1, and replace the haldex controller with a "very rare blue haldex" which can be set up via vcds to make it rear end biased. I cant remember how much it allows to go to the rear, but its not 100%, might be 80?

Any other option is going to be a lot more work, but would still need a 4wd car to build on as the prop shaft tunnel doesnt exist on the fwd ones.

Thanks Mac.

I was intrigued to see if anyone had finished a rwd mk1. I also wondered whether people had done a true rwd with a longitudinal mounted engine, (Yes it would take a lot of fabricating).

I am not actively planning on building one, but i wanted tonsee what had been done and how......
