Octavia 3 1.4 TSI Coolant usage

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've noticed my 2013 Octavia 3 1.4 TSI is using coolant fluid. I've had to put over a litre of coolant in it over the last 2-3k miles since it's service in June. It's not using any oil and there is no contamination. Nothing obvious in the engine bay or underneath the car when standing for a while and no warning lights on the dash.

It is still under used car warranty from Skoda as I bought it less than 12 months, but I've covered 14k and I'm concerned they might reject it as fair wear and tear. So I haven't taken it in yet.

I've read about a possible seal going from the water pump to the turbo and that being a know problem.

   Any advice/knowledge would be appreciated.

Cheers

Best to take it in but hoses and seals may not be covered. It needs fixing or could become worse with serious overheating issues.

Cheers. I'm actually sat in the Skoda waiting room now. They've said they are looking at the water pump.

I experienced the same problem a few months ago on my 1.4tsi and it required replacement of the water pump and housing.

Not cheap here in Australia through the dealer but I was not in a position to seek alternative quotes.

As it required removal of the air inlet they did some cleaning up of internal grungy bits at the same time. Not that it made any noticeable difference.

Unlike the diesels where the water pump and cambelt are associated and often changed at the same time, the water pump on the 1.4tsi is at the other end of the engine to the cambelt so doesn't have the same labour cost savings. Just a warning incase the topic comes up.
