Rattle/resonance passenger door, possibly window?

Featured Replies

Hey,

Had our Superb sportsline estate about 6 months now and really like it, however a really annoying resonance occurs at around 1200rpm, originating from around the front passenger door (right side here).

Its difficult to to tell exactly where it’s coming from, especially when I’m driving on own, and wife as passenger could not exactly locate source.

driving yesterday I think it may be the window, through testing with window open at various degrees.

wondering if anyone else experienced similar? Real shame as it’s starting to really annoy me and take enjoyment away from being in the car. Assume it should be covered under warranty?

thanks!

I got this issue lately after 2 years of ownership. Also window cracks when going up/down and sometimes in roundabouts or heavy turns u can hear a "click" inside window. All issues gone if you put window in lowest position or at least some where near half. This happens on both left and right side front. Left side window "tracks" on my car was once already replaced. The issue is back though. I have so many issues with this car that this one drove me over the edge. I'm selling the car and getting used E220d estate.

What engine do you have? There's a known issue for the fuel lines on 2.0 TSI's vibrating, which run under the right hand sills and usually heard through the drivers door.  New clips for the fuel line is the dealer fix (apparently).

Thanks very much for the replies and input fellas. Engine is the 2.0 TSI 272. Will mention fuel clips to dealer. Sound does seem to originated from higher up around the door rather than lower down, almost as if around seat belt tensioner, or around that area anyway.  I assume irrespective of cause it should be under warranty given only 6 months old?  Had 1.5 hour twisty road drive yesterday and it frustrated the hell out of me, so intrusive.

I feel your pain.  I noticed mine within weeks of ownership.  It's been to the dealers 3 times, I've demonstrated the problem to the service manager and also have a video of the vibration (on mine it's at ~2200K revs) they still return the car with 'no fault found'.  I was speaking to one of the techs at another dealer and he said 'known issue, there's a kit'.  I also have a vibration from the centre vents in the dash, that is very loud when above 4K revs but that's another 'no fault found' despite me demonstrating it.  I believe that too is a known problem with a/c pipes running behind the bulkhead.

So I have a vibration when my CC is set to NSL and another when I want to drive the car closer to the red line.  Best part of £35K for the 'privilege'.  Service is due in May so I'll wait until then as I really can't be bothered losing another day to have the car returned 'no fault found'.

The new Civic Type R is starting to look more and more promising.....

Interested because I have vibration `noises` in my 6 week old car.

`CC` - Cruise Control or Climate Control?

`NSL`?

Cruise Control and National Speed Limit I think.

So I had the same problem and raised the issue during service to be looked at under warranty. Mentioned about the clips.

As expected, they came back with no fault found, can't hear the noise. They offered another look into with me driving whenever I am free to book an appointment. I wasn't very pleased but acceptrd it and tried to figure out what to do next on way back.

But... On the motorway back , noise is gone... So either it has disappeared by itself or the techs fixed the clips while servicing anyway.

Hopefully it stays this way.

Happy to hear that. Though I don't have issues with clips nor metal clip inside doors. I fixed/replaced all those my self. I'm so tired of this car to be honest. I fix something, 1 week its all quiet, nice and then something else starts messing... Its like its coursed. I'm replacing it with something else very soon. I lost a lot of money, but I don't care.

Shame about that. The same visit fixed the catching window trim as well. So my car now is perfect. Touch wood stays this way

Just to update this thread.

Finally had enough of this resonance noise which was becoming really irritating. Posted video of noise to share with garage to show them the problem, which typically, did not happen when I first took the car in to try and demonstrate it to their mechanic.

Car back from garage this morning. After searching they found it to be a known issue. To resolve, apparently they glued in some foam around the fuel lines. I don't know whether that's to stop the noise or hide it. Not driven the car enough yet to determine if the issue is resolved, but fingers crossed. At least they have acknowledged the issue which is reassuring especially should it reoccur.

FWIW I pulled a front door apart a few months back...lots of stuff in there that could vibrate...

The mirror cover trim and the top of the door panel were the cause of my vibration on the passenger side. Silicon spray, Mr sheen type spray will see if it takes it away or not before you pad between them to fix it. Speaker cover in centre of dash for Canton system was another on mine and the seat belt adjuster on drivers side as well. The rear seats were knocking in the back of my estate was another issue over bumps. Cured by “adjusting” the striker with a hammer to stop latch slap.
Also, the amount of times I’ve fixed a rattle by removing customers keys from the glovebox and sunglasses from the overhead console would surprise you. 😄

You got bigger balls than me mate, wouldnt dare disassembling the door myself, wouldnt have a driveable car left. But great job!

If the problem crops back up it'll be straight back to dealers under warranty.

Thanks for sharing anyway, sure it could prove useful to some.
