I am looking for ideas to stash a phone out of the way around the front of the centre console without losing cup holder space or having the phone loose and shed loads of cable flapping about as in the pic.

I know about the lumps of Skoda rubber that sit in the cup holders to do the job but that seems a waste of space to me. What sort of other phone holding devices are folks going for or have created when using smart link and usb cables into their phones?

It slightly obscures the display, but I find that really doesn't matter. I use a short USB lead down to the USB socket  below. My mobile is a Samsung S7+ that I keep in a soft gel bumper case to which I have stuck a magnetic plate to the back. This 'snaps' to the holder with tremendous grip. It has never fallen off. I have been on holiday and attached a Galaxy S2 8.4" tablet to the mount for Satnav. That too didn't fall off either.

Cheers guys, I think a magnetic retainer of some sort is the way to go. Probably going to make it as discreet as possible and place it under the heater controls somehow.
