Hyundai Ionic

Featured Replies

Anyone got any experience with them?

Seems available as both hybrid and bev, appears roomy enough, and well equipped.

Likely in market for a replacement for Lexi the citigo by Christmas, and swmbo wants a bigger car - fair enough with 2 child seats and travel system needed from Feb on....

Ev makes sense for her driving but the options are slim really.

I dont like the look of the Leaf.

Zoe isnt bigger enough to be worth it. Kona etc are unnecessary.

Prius bit too large and i dont like the shape.

Golf (gte or ev spec) over here seem rarer than rational brexit discussions.

So, options seem to be limited (i doubt we will go brand new, maybe 1-2yrs old)

Auris Hybrid

Hyundai Ionic Phev or Bev

Auris is, imo, a better shaped car, but...its hard to argue with value/equipment options on the Korean offering and it looks to have a decent boot.

Anybody had one, tested one, know a neighbour who loves or hates one?

Is there another option i have missed??

From what I've read from owners of the EV version they get a genuine 270 mile range with about 5 miles per KW hour of charge so pretty impressive for the purchase price.

Thanks. I may have to go test driving a few when i get a chance in the next few weeks. Pre-learned is fore-warned on anything to watch for though.

Any good ev forums (busy and constructive..) to check out?

Source was Auto Express magazine when they had one on long term test and got several owners together for a photo shoot and a chat and they were very positive about their choice and no real negative points TBH.;)

The EV version does not get 170 mile range.

The Kona EV & Kia e-Niro can get towards 270 miles.

We test drive the BEV 18 months ago, really liked it and has loads of spec (leather ventilated seats, heated seats and steering wheel etc).

SWMBO preferred the (new shape) Leaf though so we bought that.

Last weekend we went in a hybrid taxi in Frankfurt, again a nice car but this was a lower spec and although there was nothing wrong with it, it didn’t wow us either.

I tested the brand new Ioniq hybrid before buying my Skoda back in Jan 2017. It's a great car. Shame my order couldn't be here before April 2017, when £0 tax become £140. We also wanted 2 cars, so we got 2 used cars: Skoda Octavia and Nissan Leaf EV.

For Ioniq BEV version, the newer version's battery is actually lesser than the old version. Longer range, yes, but it rapid charges much slower. If you need to drive 120 miles everyday, but never long distance, then worth waiting for new version. If you want a more capable EV and drive no more than 100 miles a day, the old version's battery is better. The previous gen Ioniq BEV is a gem and highly regarded in the EV community.

Check out speakev.com. Majority UK based EV forum. I'm on there also.

What exactly is your wife's need? Daily range? Driveway? Able to get home charger installed?

I guess you'll keep your Octy for longer range. I'm doing the same, my Leaf for daily commute charged at home, Octy for longer range.

She needs space for 2 kids in the back, 60% of the time her commute is only a few miles, but needs to carry school work with her too... otherwise a bicycle would be ideal :D

Probably get a full "typical" week on a full charge...

other bit of time is the odd teacher conference, or trip that may/may not be longer yhan max batt range.

thus, an plug in hybrid would be perfect as no range anxiety and Home charger installation should be very easy plenty space and can hide it in a fancy mini pillar if i want..

Umlike most Plugin hybrids thouh, our would be plugged in.
