As a six year Yeti 1.2 petrol owner I am interested in the benefits of changing to a petrol Karoq. Mine has a fuel consumption of 42mpg as per MaxiDot which is confirmed by maths on fill-up.

Can Karoq petrol owners say what their consumption is and what size engine? 

Anyone having changed to Karoq ( 2wd )  from Yeti- comments would be interesting.  Comfort,  reliability,  flexibility,  gadgets etc. 

Hi, I have a 1.5DSG and used to be an Octi Diesel driver (since it was released in the UK).

 

With a very conservative driving style I have a long term average of 47mpg. I now regularly get slightly over 50mpg on longer trips on the motorway. A recent run was 53mpg there and 51mpg return.

 

Most of my driving is short runs and high 30's occasional 40 MPG but that is short 15 minute drives.

 

This is based on a really gentle driving style, cruise of 65mph on motorway. 45/50 mph local roads with gentle acceleration where possible.

I have had three 1.2 DSG Yetis since 2010, and loved them all, and was sad when they stopped making them. However, while my last Yeti was in for servicing I went for a test drive in a 2018 1.0 DSG Karoq just to pass the time, and was very surprised.

The first thing I noticed was the reduction in wind noise due to the shape, and the 1.0L engine really surprised me in it’s quietness and flexibility, felt nippier than the Yeti 1.2  and the general ride was more comfortable and relaxing.

I was so impressed I ended up buying the car, and have not been disappointed since.

Unfortunately Skoda UK no longer list the 1.0 DSG as an option, can’t imagine why, as they go very well together.

I haven’t checked the fuel consumption accurately, but it seems better than the Yeti and usually shows a reading in the mid forties average over a wide range of usage, no high speed travel on motorways and generally fairly normal local motoring within a 30 mile radius only.

Totally reliable so far, engine never missed a beat, and being the Technology version has all the gadgets we personally need.

 

 

 

I traded in my 5.5 year old Yeti 1.2 SE DSG 2 months ago for a 1.0 Karoq SE Technology DSG 2 months ago.  1600miles later I'm finding it more economical - I go to Bristol monthly from Epping Forest area via the M4 & M25 and the best indicated mpg in the Yeti was around 45mpg.  On the 1st Karoq return journey I got 51mpg , that's setting the Adaptive Cruise Control to 72mph and occasionally putting my foot down to 80mph to get past traffic.  The 2nd more recent trip I set the same 72mph but a couple of times got up to 90 on the speedo and recorded 47mpg, but it was raining too and I do find that that loses 2-3mpg (did so in the Yeti too).  Best so far on a 45min trip on quiet roads back from the depths of Essex has been 53mpg, but I did manage that once in the Yeti too, same trip, similar circumstances.  However I doubt my Karoq is yet fully run in and hope for slightly better gradually.  The Yeti indicated mpg was definitely somewhat optimistic, when compared with calculating the mileage against petrol used, but I'm finding the Karoq indicated mpg is much nearer the calculated value.  However still to check the accuracy of recorded miles against a set number of red maker posts on motorways (fixed at 110yds according to my I-Spy book - hope yhey've not gone metric).

 

I initially found the Yeti ride a too unsettling and after two years changed the 17" wheels (225/50 tyres) to 16" wheels (215/60 Michelin X-climates) resulting in a noticeably better & quieter ride.  The Karoq on 17" wheels (215/55 Bridgestone Turanza Evos is quieter and more comfortable stiil - there's still some road noise on coarse gravel and a little bump thump on ridges and broken road, which would be nice to lose and these are felt a little in the ride.  I kept the 16" wheels and tyres from the Yeti and will try them this winter to see how they work out.  I notice that Skoda have just started offering offering adaptive dampers on 2 wheel drive Karoqs as well as 4WDs and if buying now, would now go for these if at all possible, but I would want to stay with the smallest wheels highest profile tyres available.  That said the Karoq probably rides better than most currenty cars in the price range, certainly better my sister in law's last generation Ford Focus.

 

I did find the Yeti throttle very sensitive when starting off, after driving another car for a week and probably would find the Karoq ditto, but got used to it.  I didn't find getting used to the Karoq generally  at all difficult - it feels like a Yeti but a better one to me and is rather more restful on a journey.  I love the DSG auto box in both cars.  It's almost as easy to park and see out of in spite of being bigger.  I found the Yeti to be a very robust/solid car - too early to say whether the Karoq matches it.

 

 I liked my previous Yeti, but like the Karoq even more and it's my best car yet.   I could go on but said too much already.

That's very impressive economy - I assume this is a manual car.  Could you say more about that particular journey - was it nearly all motorway and noting your average of 36mph, what sort of speed you were cruising at most of the time.  I go to Bristol monthly and have considered early one Saturday morning taking my time in light traffic conditions, cruising say at 50-55mph, just to see what economy I get - might add an hour to the journey but that's OK.   I tried similar years ago in my BMW 523i auto and got around 40mpg.

We've gone from a manual 1.2tsi yeti to a DSG 1.5 tsi karoq. We are only 400 miles in on the Karoq, so far its returning 45mpg including the 240 mile journey home from the dealer via A-roads and motorway. I suspect it will level out at about 40mpg  as we tend to use the Karoq more about town. The Yeti wasn't much different to be honest, not enough to care for sure.

 

The karoq is much nicer and smoother to drive but I think that is the DSG and the added power rather than anything else.

I Took delivery of my Karoq in March 2018 (ordered december 2017) -- I previously had the 1.2 Yeti which we loved.  Neither my wife nor I really thought the Karoq was the ideal replacement -- the car was delivered with 45psi 

in the tyres - I lowered this to 30psi but we always thought the ride was a bit truck like which I guess was the firm suspension (1.5 TSI).  It was a VWFS Lease so I managed to swap it in August for an Octavia -- the Octavia 

was a generation behind but at least the rid is better and you arent thrown sideways round corners.  My wife still carries on about the Yeti and how much she liked it !

 

The Karoq would do something near to 500 miles on a good run if you did not put your foot down too much and probably 400 or less if you were mostly round town (it was auto) 

Have a 1.5 tsi sel (previously a 2.0 tdi110 manual)

Best I have ever got was 48 mpg on a 50 mile dual carriageway journey where there was a long 40mph roadworks stretch past Cambridge (and aircon off). I generally run with the aircon permanently on. 

Home to the local town about 3 miles away I get about 30mpg. 

Overall high thirties low forties seems about right. 

I find the 18” wheels with Bridgestone Turanzas a bit harsh and noisy.  There is only one choice of all season tyre for this size wheel/tyre (215/50 R18} and that is a Vredestein  Quatrac Pro. 

If you want to fit Michelin Cross Climates or other all season tyres you have to go down to 17” wheels.  

Despite all of this I like the car and have no regrets buying it. 

Dealers may have delivery mileage sel cars available at a discount (my local dealer has).

 After two Yeti 1.2 DSG's, I got a Karoq 1.0 SE Tech DSG in February 2018. I miss the external looks of the Yeti but the Karoq is a superior car. It is quieter, gives on average 45mpg whilst the two Yeti's (110/115 hp) gave 42mpg and 43 respectively, and has a bigger boot. I tend to treat my modern cars with the same regard as white goods but my wife likes the Karoq a lot, so I have just ordered a 1.6TDi SE Tech DSG as a replacement.

I have gone over to the dark side as I cannot get a 1.0 DSG, and the 1.5 petrol is a lot more to PCH than the 1.6TDi.

Having travelled in the back of a friend's Yeti and in the back of our Karoq SEL, my wife thought that the "Yeti was unpleasant and uncomfortable, whereas the Karoq was pleasant and comfortable" (that was just her in the back of the Yeti, but 3 of them in the back of the Karoq).
