Aircon - recirc flap

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a 2016 Skoda Superb 2,0 tdi SE business

We have had it on lease since July 2016 and this July we purchased the car from the lease company

Car has covered 39K, with a full Skoda service history

The car passed to me in July 2019 (its a company vehicle) an straight away I noticed that all didnt seem right with the aircon.  On non aircon mode all seemed well, as soon as I switched on aircon, the fan speed dropped by at least 50%

Over the past few weeks, its got worse and worse, where the air volume out of the vents is just a mere trickle, even on full blast, it got so bad that it just appeared to get warm when the aircon was on its coldest setting

Car was booked into Skoda for a major service and I asked them to investigate the aircon issue at the same time.  The diagnosis from Skoda was that the aircon needed a service, priced at £139+VAT   This diagnosis didnt make much sense to me

Decided on the back of that to put it into our local independent garage for a an aircon regas......

Garage call me after a short while, aircon unit is fine, the problem is with one of the recirculation flaps being stuck closed.  At this point I told the garage to stop work and I would take car back to Skoda

So, my question is, is this a common fault ? do you think there is a likelihood of a just out of date warranty claim ?

Strikes me at just 39K miles, 2 months out of warranty, that the hvac system should be a bit more robust

The garage opened the stuck flap, so at least I now have working aircon, is it ok to just leave it like this and see what happends in the future or return to Skoda

Any advice would be much appreciated
